The Braintree Buzz
Principal's Update
Thank you to all of the families who made it out to Pumpkin Carving Night! We had a massive turnout, the students had a blast, and the grand opening of Braintree Blossoms was a huge success! An event like this takes a lot of work behind the scenes, and I can't thank teachers enough for their dedication to creating exciting events for you and your children! We can't wait to see everyone back for our winter concert and community pot-luck on December 7th.
Halloween is Monday! Students are invited to wear school appropriate costumes (no weapons or prop weapons) for a costume celebration. Please keep any trick-or-treating candy at home.
Highlights from my time visiting classes this week include listening to intermediate students share articles and their own writing about the importance of fully including disabled people. Primary students are continuing to practice addition using collaborative games. Preschoolers built patterns with pumpkins and leaves. Amazing things are happening in our classrooms!
Huge thanks to donors for the event, like Greybar Farm and Liberty Orchards for supplying us with oranges and apples during recent field trips.
October Assembly
We had a school-wide assembly this week. Congratulations to our PAWS reward recipients! We filled our PAWS token canister and earned extra recess and cider pressing Thursday afternoon. It was the perfect day for extra time outdoors! Third graders Sadie and Mckenzie wrote and performed a short skit about the importance of cleaning up trash outdoors. Kindergarteners and first graders put on a show with Halloween carols and some great jokes! It was also the end of National Principals' Month. I was honored to receive a card, drawings, and a flower crown from the students and staff. I am so fortunate to be a part of the Braintree community!!
Welcome Patrick!
We are VERY excited to welcome Patrick to our staff as the Head Cook here at Braintree. Students have been doing a great job remembering the PIN for their lunches, and the food quality and quantity have improved with someone cooking in house.
STEM News
Primary students learned about how bird beaks have adapted depending on available foods, and students in grades 4-6 are just beginning a unit where they will invent a tool to solve a problem. A small group of third graders has begun an exciting project building a scale model of the school. All third graders are writing interactive stories online. This was an exciting week in Mr. Green's STEM classes!
PiE
Our first event is a pie fundraiser - we will make your Thanksgiving pies! Funds raised will be used for field trips and enrichment for students. Please join us for a planning meeting on Monday, November 7 at 2:15pm in our library.
Braintree Cookbook
We're bringing back a beloved Braintree tradition - the Community Cookbook! If you haven't already, please help us by sharing a recipe your family enjoys.
