Pioneers Host An Awesome Event
Young Authors Conference
A total of 147 students in grades 3–6 from across 10 districts came to the middle/high school to participate in a day of learning centered around a love of writing. Students were selected by submitting a writing piece. These talented young writers had the opportunity to learn from keynote speaker Andrew Megow, author and illustrator of Ghost Bear. Students also participated in breakout workshops focused on different genres of writing.
Community Support Sparks Learning
Thanks to a generous grant from Adams-Columbia Electric Company, our 6th grade Science students recently completed their Electricity Unit with exciting, hands-on activities. Students built both series and parallel circuits and explored different tools to better understand how electricity works. We are grateful for partnerships like this that help bring learning to life for our students!
Special Congratulations to Two of Our Own!
Westfield Area Middle School Raises Over $2,000 for a Great Cause!
In February, the Westfield Area Middle School Student Council led its annual fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society—raising over $2,000! Students and staff came together through fun events like selling gummy bears and ice cream floats, a penny war, and lively rewards such as hat and sunglasses day, pie-a-teacher, and TikTok dances. Highlights included a staff vs. student volleyball game, “teach in a tutu” day, and a hilarious “Black Swan Ballet” routine by Dr. Steward. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and made the event a huge success!
Making Connections ...
The Middle School Student Council hopped to Lily Meadows this past month to make Easter crafts and play games. Every bunny had a great time!
Electrifying Science For Coloma 5th Graders & 8th Grade MS Students
Mr. Bill Harris from the Renewable World Foundation in Neshkoro spent an exciting day with Coloma’s 5th graders and 8th grade middle school students, sharing his expertise on electricity, magnetism, and hydroelectricity. Through hands-on activities and engaging demonstrations, students explored the wonders of energy and how it powers our world—sparking curiosity and brightening young minds with science!
Culinary Arts Students Explore New Flavors
On April 15th, students from our Culinary Arts classes attended a special expo where they had the chance to dive into the world of hospitality and cooking. Students created their own seasoning rubs for BBQ and connected with area hospitality groups and hotels. It was a great opportunity for hands-on learning and exploring future career paths!
Spring Planting In Elementary Science
A few first grade elementary students kicked off their Plants Unit by planting Zinnias and Bachelor Buttons in Science class. The timing is perfect — these budding gardeners are preparing a special surprise just in time for Mother's Day!
