In our original posting we missed the description of our "Greater Good" Club. If your child would like to take part in this club on Tuesdays, please email jillian.dempsey@whrsd.org or ashley.silvia@whrsd.org. The description is below.
The Greater Good Club:
"In connection with WHRSD’s motto Semper Ad Moira~ Semper Ad Moira will be a club always striving toward the greater good by building stronger relationships with community members and organizations. We will provide outreach opportunities for our middle school students to build relationships and connect with the pillars of our community through our senior center, American Legion, and South Shore Veterans Assistance programs. The club will also provide opportunities for our students to assist our community food pantry and Good Neighbor Fund. The students will also build connections with our community police and fire departments. I will collaborate with my students to plan food, clothing, and toy drives in our school to those in need. The students will understand the importance of giving back to their community and service to others. Kindness and gratitude will be the foundation of our club. The Ripple Effect of Kindness is real and my students will witness this first hand."
School Council & Fundraising
Are you interested in getting involved with your child’s education in another way? If you are, then think about whether you would be interested in joining the Hanson Middle School Council (also called the School Improvement Council). By law, every school is required to have a School Council. The group is made up of parents, teachers, and at least one community member.
The law outlines four major areas of responsibility for councils. School councils are to assist principals in:
- Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards;
- Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school;
- Reviewing the annual school building budget; and
- Formulating a school improvement plan.
We will meet 4 times during the school year. The meeting schedule is as follows: Wednesday October 8, Wednesday December 10, Wednesday February 11, and Wednesday May 13. Each meeting is about an hour, starting at 3:00 PM, and ending around 4:00 PM. Emails will be sent prior to each meeting to inform you whether it will take place or is being cancelled and the reason for cancellation.
This year we will be doing all fundraising through our school council. If you are interested in getting involved with school fundraising please email josh.belvis@whrsd.org.
Chromebook Insurance
For the 2025-2026 school year, the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District Office of Technology Services will offer Chromebook insurance for all students in grades 6-12.
Accidental damage, such as broken screens, can add up quickly throughout a school year and cause a financial burden on families.

MARC Assemblies- September 16th
We are excited to announce an important assembly for our students, "Friends & Conflict," presented by the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center (MARC) at Bridgewater State University.
This assembly will take place on Tuesday, September 16, during the school day.
MARC facilitators will lead two separate sessions, one for 5th and 6th graders and another for 7th and 8th graders. These interactive sessions are designed to help students navigate the complexities of friendships, both in person and in the digital world. These presentations will discuss how online behaviors can affect friendships and will teach healthy ways to handle conflict and disagreements. A key focus is helping students cope with bullying and cyberbullying and learning the importance of not reacting when angry or upset.
We are confident that this valuable program will provide our students with the tools they need to build stronger friendships and handle difficult situations.
Washington, DC 2026
On Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:00 PM we will be having our final informational meeting about the 2026 annual Washington DC trip. This will be a virtual meeting. This will be your last chance to learn about the trip. We will be discussing everything we will see and do, trip dates, what’s included in the pricing, and information about scholarship opportunities through the travel company! Please be sure to RSVP for the info session so you can receive the trip meeting link: RSVP HERE If you cannot attend the meeting, but want more information click “No, but send more information” on the RSVP to stay in the loop.
If you have already enrolled your child you DO NOT need to attend!
We have Hilliard’s Chocolate bars available for student fundraising. This fundraising is for all grade 8 students. Students staying home from the D.C. trip are still able to sell chocolate bars to reimburse the cost of their two field trips. Selling two boxes of chocolate will reimburse the cost of the two local field trips in full. Students or parents can purchase a box of candy bars from Mrs. Laferriere in the main office for $50. Each box contains 40 chocolate bars which can be sold for $2.50 each. There is a $50 profit from each box sold and you may apply the profit directly to your students account or may use it for spending money while in D.C.
