Feature Column - Inclusive Schools Week: Children First in Fargo Public Schools

Fargo Public Schools encourages our schools and our community to celebrate Inclusive Schools Week next week, December 8-12, alongside districts across the nation. This year’s theme, “Children First: Building a Stronger Tomorrow,” is inspired by the Maasai greeting Casserian Engeri — “And how are the children?” — a reminder that the well-being of our students reflects the well-being of our entire community.

Read more about Inclusive Schools Week and how it aligns with the District's Strategic Plan in this Feature Column by Director of Standards-Based Instruction Dr. Liann M. Hanson and Director of Student Support Services Shelby DiFonzo.

South Musical: Seussical

South High School presents "Seussical" December 11-14 at the South High School theater. This is a family-friendly musical, children are encouraged to attend, so Thursday through Saturday performances have a 6:30 p.m. start and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.

Featuring the beloved characters of Dr. Seuss, "Seussical" is fun for the whole family. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.

Tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults and can be purchased on the Fargo Public Schools Online Theater Box Office website.

Jefferson Celebration

Jefferson Elementary School celebrated being removed from the Comprehensive School Improvement list this November. Jefferson had been placed on the list because it was identified as being in the bottom 5% schools in the state in academic performance. The staff put plans in motion and worked diligently to improve the schools performance and now sees the fruits of their labor in successfully reaching their goal of being removed from the CSI list.

Jefferson works hard to make sure that all of it's students receive the best educations possible. They are now celebrating the rewards of that hard work. Jefferson held a school day celebration with its students and staff and also made the announcement to families at its Family Game Night.
