Dear Martinsburg North Middle School Community:
Berkeley County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Livesay as the new principal of Martinsburg North Middle School. Bringing more than 35 years of educational experience across Northern Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle, Livesay has dedicated his career to supporting students, developing educators, and creating opportunities for academic success.
Livesay began his career in 1989 as a classroom teacher and coach in Shenandoah and Frederick counties, Virginia, where he developed a passion for student mentorship and relationship-building. He later transitioned into school leadership, serving as an assistant principal at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Throughout his career, he has also served as Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator for Winchester Public Schools in Virginia and Coordinator of High Schools for Jefferson County Schools in West Virginia.
Most recently, from 2018 to 2026, Livesay served as the Admissions Coordinator for the Academies of Loudoun in Leesburg, Virginia, a magnet STEM high school within Loudoun County Public Schools. In this role, he helped support advanced STEM and career pathway opportunities for students. Livesay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Tech and a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia, specializing in K-12 professional development and advanced STEM and career pathways.
"I am thrilled to join Berkeley County Schools as the incoming Principal of Martinsburg North Middle School," said Livesay. "I look forward to partnering with staff, students, and families to create a safe, supportive environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The North Middle community can expect a visible, collaborative leader committed to building strong relationships and supporting student success."
Holly Kleppner, Executive Director of Secondary School Leadership & Athletics, said Livesay’s experience and student-centered approach will be an asset to Martinsburg North Middle School.
"Mr. Livesay brings a unique combination of classroom experience, instructional leadership, and a deep understanding of how to create pathways for student success," said Kleppner. "His ability to connect with students, support educators, and build strong partnerships with families will help move Martinsburg North Middle School forward.
We are excited to welcome him to Berkeley County Schools and look forward to the positive impact he will have on the school community," she added.
Outside of school, Livesay remains connected to athletics as a high school football official. He enjoys reading, watching Netflix, spending time outdoors, and making memories with his family, including his wife, DeeDee; children Emma and Michael; grandchildren Grayson and Sadie; and their three dogs and three cats. He looks forward to becoming an active and visible member of the Martinsburg community.
