From the Principal
TELPAS testing begins this month. It is a Kinder-12th Grade English proficiency test for students who speak two languages. Almost 59% of our students qualify as English Language Learners. We have more than a dozen languages represented at CES, with the majority of our Emergent Bilingual students speaking Spanish and English. Immigrants to the US may qualify for services through our PfISD International Welcome Center. FAQ's regarding ICE can also be found on the International Welcome Center site. Please click the link for more information.
We also ramp up for STAAR this month with Interim (practice) tests and after-school tutoring. Information regarding federal and state accountability from 2023-24 are linked below.
We celebrate a Lunar New Year at the beginning of this month. It is the Year of the Snake (1989, 2001, 2013, 2025). In Chinese culture, the snake is a symbol of wisdom, elegance, and mystery. It would be nice to have a year of smarts, sophistication and surprises!
February is Black History Month. This year's theme is "African-Americans and Labor". This theme reflects on the ways in which labor—whether voluntary or involuntary, skilled or unskilled—has been at the core of the Black American experience and has helped shape the USA. The theme gives us great opportunities to learn about entrepreneurship and support local black-owned businesses.
Thank you for choosing CES. You are appreciated!!!
Sincerely,
Georgie Arenaz
