Major's Minute

On Tuesday night around 9:20 pm. Our doorbell rang once, and then twice ... I thought wow, the girls are really committing to this doorbell joke. (The girls being the group of six young adult girls who have been in our house this past week.) As I go to the door, I yell, "Who is it?" to go along with it. But with no answer, I look through the door peephole and see a person standing in the dark. Not knowing who this was, I was hesitant to open the door, but I had my dogs with me so felt a little bold. I asked again, "Who is it?" as I opened the door.

Yes, is Mary here? I used to live here .... My name is Jeremy.

Oh boy! Lord me with me. This is a scam, an unsafe situation. This guy is coming at night, maybe with someone else outside casing the neighborhood. (Okay, maybe I watch crime shows a little too much sometimes.) But as I continued to talk with Jeremy through the gate door, I realize that he in fact used to live with previous Officers Chung as a college student. He is visiting from China and happened to be in the area and wanted to pop in. He came in for a tour of his old dwellings and Celestine and I continued to talk to him in the kitchen.

After talking to him, giving him some snacks and praying with him, he left. What an unorthodox night! I'm not saying we should open our doors to strangers in the darkness of night. However, it was an unexpected blessing to meet this guy so on fire for Christ! We blessed him on his way and his journey to the IHOP (International House of Prayer) and to become a preacher himself.

Interestingly enough the dogs did not bark one bit. I guess he's technically family too!

Ephesians 2:19: "You are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God."

Greetings to all of you,

We have officially launched the Leadership Formation & Development program (previously named the School for Leadership & Development). In the coming year, we will be offering courses that will deepen your faith, strengthen your business and leadership knowledge, and provide insight on your own personal development. We are excited to roll out new concepts, and welcome new instructors! We believe that God’s hand is on this program, and His Spirit will work through it to strengthen the territory’s mission impact.

These classes are open to officers, employees, volunteers, and soldiers. That has not changed. We will give priority to Lieutenants in the field because these courses are required for them.

We will be sending out the entire course catalog soon, but for now, you will find the Fall Catalog attached. If you are interested in a class, here is how to register:

Officers: Submit an SLD class request in TSAMM Continuing Education. (The name update has not yet been completed on that platform.) Your Divisional Leader will approve, and it will then be submitted.

Employees: Have your direct supervisor email LFD@usw.salvationarmy.org, and cc: you (the student), confirming their approval for you to take the course you are interested in.

Soldiers & Volunteers: Email LFD@usw.salvationarmy.org directly with the name of the course you wish to register for.

Major Nancy Halverson and I have been praying over this program. We are excited to get to know you and look forward to walking through some of this training together. Please email us if you have any questions!

Life Groups

This year, we'd like to put concerted effort into Life Groups - small groups that gather once a week to touch base, talk over the message, and pray. These groups can be put together for you or you can gather a group of friends to meet with a specific purpose in mind - to encourage each other in your walk with Christ. We have Pray & Go books that we'd like to go through as a church in this Life Groups. Please fill out form below if you are interested. Our goal is to get Life Groups started in September.
