Growing Together: Families, Educators, and Communities Growing Together: Families, Educators, and Communities

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Mayfair Middle/High School proudly hosted the “Growing Together: Families, Educators, and Communities” event, presented by Bellflower Unified School District in partnership with the Mid-Cities SELPA. It was wonderful to see families, educators, and community members come together for a full day of learning, collaboration, and celebration. Attendees enjoyed a variety of enriching sessions designed to strengthen partnerships between schools and families, and many took advantage of the resources, giveaways, and childcare provided throughout the day. The event featured an inspiring keynote presentation by Dr. Cherina Betters, who shared powerful insights on equity and access in education. The positive energy and community spirit were evident in every part of the day. Special thanks to all the presenters, staff volunteers, and student volunteers whose hard work and dedication helped make this event a resounding success.

CTE Pathways CTE Pathways

Dear BUSD families — We invite you to explore the CTE Course Videos page on the Bellflower Unified website, where you can preview the exciting Career Technical Education (CTE) classes that your high school student may be able to take. (busd.k12.ca.us) From hands-on pathways like Woodworking & Cabinetry, Culinary Arts, Automotive Technology, Aviation, and Graphic Production Technologies to tech and health tracks such as Computer Science, Medical Billing & Coding, Introduction to Health Careers, and TV, Film & Digital Video, these courses offer real-world skills and career exposure. Some of these programs are available at Mayfair High School, while others are offered at Bellflower High School, giving students across the district a variety of options to match their interests. We encourage you to watch a few of the videos together, discuss which areas spark interest, and talk with your student about how these electives could help shape their future — and set them up for post-high school success.

Thank you for supporting our student-athletes! To ensure a positive and respectful environment at all athletic events, we ask that all spectators follow our Spectator Code of Conduct. Please positively support all athletes, respect officials, coaches, and players, and demonstrate good sportsmanship and self-control. We encourage everyone to keep language clean and family-friendly, show school spirit without noisemakers or music, and acknowledge the hard work of both teams. Let’s focus on encouragement rather than criticism. Spectators who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the event. Together, we can create a welcoming atmosphere for our students and families.

New Tardy Policy New Tardy Policy

Starting October 13, 2025, Mayfair will enforce a new tardy policy: any student who is tardy to three or more periods in a single week will be assigned a lunch detention the following week. Students must complete their detention to be removed from the no-go Minga list and regain the ability to attend special school events, which are considered privileges. Failure to serve a lunch detention will result in additional consequences.

🎃👻 Get Ready for a Spook-tacular Halloween at Mayfair Middle/High School! 🎃👻
We're excited for a fun and frightfully good time, but don't forget — we still need to follow a few ghoulish guidelines to keep things safe and respectful!
Here's what to keep in mind for your costumes:

Keep it cool — no overly revealing or suggestive outfits!
Leave the see-through stuff and bare midriffs at home.
Sorry, no plastic swords or canes — let's keep the scares friendly!
Respect is key, so no culturally or racially insensitive costumes.
No full face masks, but you can cover your mouth and nose if it fits your spooky style!
Hats and wigs? Yes, please! They just have to be part of your costume.
Remember, skirts, shorts, and dresses should be fingertip length.
And, no sharp or pointed jewelry — safety first!
We can’t wait to see your creative, fun, and school-appropriate costumes! Let's make this Halloween one to remember! 🎉🕸️🦇

  2. Dress Code. For the 2025-2026 school year, we are trying to prepare our students for college and career ready with a dress code. Students will not be allowed to wear any inappropriate clothing which includes the following: No sheer, low cut, revealing blouses, bare midriff, or braless outfits, bathing suits, beach attire, tight or revealing, or strapless garments. Please be sure that your student follows the dress code and wears appropriate clothing and accessories. Also, students may not bring blankets to campus. 3. No returning back to campus. If a student has an early release (7th or 8th period), once the student leaves campus, they may not return to campus during school hours. Parents - please ensure that your students are going home early if they have the early release. Note: Students who have a "home" period, must leave campus by the end of lunch, and are not allowed to remain unsupervised. Please review your students schedule so that you are aware when they will be leaving campus early (prior to 3:35).

School Policies School Policies

Bikes/skateboards/ scooters

Students will not be allowed to have bikes, scooters or skateboards on campus. There are designated lock areas on the north and south ends of campus for students to securely store them during the school day. Riding and even walking them through campus presents a safety concern. Students are expected to pick up their belongings at the designated areas, and exit campus. Students are also required to walk their Bike, scooter or skateboard until they are completely off campus, which includes walkways and parking lots. Our goal is to insure safety for all students, we appreciate your support in upholding these expectations at home.

Mayfair Middle/High School students will utilize the app called Minga as a digital ID card. The app enables staff to create hall passes, reward students for doing well and helping others, and the digital ID card will help students have an easier time entering or leaving campus. The digital ID has a "live" interface, with a running digital clock and a moving background, thus preventing students from using a screenshot [Screenshots of ID are not permitted]. Students will utilize their school email (via Google) to log in. The app is safe to use, uses very little data, and doesn't require access to any of the information stored on your phone. If your child does not have a smartphone, don't worry - they will receive a printed ID card as well. Click here to access a quick document that shows you how to log into your school's Minga account.

LA County Library’s 46th Annual Bookmark Contest will begin Sept 2nd and run through Oct 18th. The Bookmark Contest encourages a love of books and reading while also promoting creativity, artistic expression, and community engagement. We invite youth from Kindergarten through 12th Grade to design a bookmark and compete with others in their age category for a chance to see their bookmark design printed and distributed across LA County. Did you know that free online tutoring is being provided by the BUSD district? Students can log in to Paper using their school district's Clever accounts (which uses the student's school email/password), or they can download the Paper app!

PAPER Online Tutoring is available for all students in 4th-12th grade through their Clever account. Students may ask tutors questions through the chat feature using the PAPER APP to get help with homework, feedback on their writing, support with studying for assessments, and even help with college/scholarship essays! The APP can be found in the Google Play and Apple APP store.

Click here to register for a free parent webinar (provided in English and Spanish). If your child needs more information about how to use PAPER, they can watch the following videos for more information:

Click here to watch the video titled "How Do Students Access 24/7 Live Help on PAPER?"
