Message from the Superintendent
Bond Update: 57% Approval, Records Broken!
Nearly 5,000 ballots were turned in between Monday afternoon and the Tuesday deadline. Better to be right on time than never -- thank you for getting your voice counted!
Palisades Day of the Dead Event
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America with colorful calaveras (skulls) and calacas (skeletons).
Palisades World Language School hosted a special Day of the Dead event with students, staff, and families that included creating alebrijes and an altar to remember friends and families who have passed, and other activities as part of the Mexican tradition. It was the start of a wonderful community-building tradition at the new school.
Veterans Day, No School Thursday, Nov. 11
Thursday, Nov. 11 classes and offices are closed in observance of Veterans Day. School will resume Friday, Nov. 12.
Veteran's Day is a national holiday celebrating freedom, sacrifice, and honor for those who served in the military. It also is a day dedicated to giving thanks to people who served. May we never forget them and the sacrifices they made.
Last Call: Tech Consent & Protection Program
Each student must have a Technology Consent Form on file each year. Additionally, LOSD is once again offering a Device Damage and Loss Protection Plan to ease the financial obligation if your student's district device is damaged or lost. Language Arts Curriculum Survey
As we prepare to review and revise the curriculum for our Language Arts program, we are seeking your voice. The members of the Language Arts Curriculum Committee request that you complete a survey to provide them with input for consideration during this selection process. COVID-19 Vaccine Information Session
Status of COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Children Ages 5-11
LOSD is working with both the Lake Oswego Fire Department and Clackamas County Public Health to set up vaccination clinics for children ages 5 to 11. As soon as we have confirmed supplies, dates, times, and locations, we will notify our families immediately.
Clackamas County Public Health is working to expand its current vaccine clinics offer pediatric Pfizer vaccines for youth ages 5-11. They have not yet opened up appointments for children 5 to 11, but we encourage you to keep checking for when appointments open up: https://www.clackamas.us/coronavirus/vaccine. Note the clinics fill up quickly. If you are unable to make an appointment, that clinic is full. Please continue to check back regularly.

Children ages 5 to 11 will receive one-third of the adult dose of the Pfizer vaccine using smaller needles designed for children. To become fully vaccinated, the child will need a second shot of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks after their first shot.

Welcome to My World
Welcome to My World is an experiential learning event promoting empathy and disability awareness that our fourth and fifth graders have participated in over the past few weeks. Welcome to My World is a school-board approved program developed by the Special Services Parent Advisory Committee as an opportunity for students to experience what life might be like for an individual with a disability. The students learn together with three stations: Speech and Language, Dyslexia, and Sensory Processing Disorder. At the end of the session, each class reflects on their personal reactions to the experience, their thoughts about what it is like for students with a disability, and plans for how to be a supportive community member to a peer who may be experiencing this disability. We are very pleased our students are having the opportunity to participate in this important program.
