Family Newsletter
May 29, 2026
Greetings MMS Families,
As we head into the final weeks of the school year, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your support and partnership this school. May has been a whirlwind of activity, and seeing our students shine in academics, the arts, and athletics has been deeply rewarding. There is a wonderful energy in our hallways as students wrap up projects, celebrate milestones, and reflect on how much they have grown since September.
Looking ahead, June promises to be just as memorable with field trips, special traditions, and year-end celebrations. We have some of the important dates listed below, with even more events happening on teams. Thank you for continuing to encourage your students to stay focused, kind, and finish the school year strong!
Sincerely,
Kelly Grantham, Principal

MMS Student Council Honors Our Heroes at Springvale Veterans Cemetery
On May 23, the MMS Student Council, joined by friends and families, visited Springvale Veterans Cemetery to place American flags on the graves of our brave U.S. Military service members for Memorial Day. For several council members, the day was deeply personal as they decorated the graves of their own relatives. This annual tradition highlights the immense sacrifices made by our service men and women. The freedom and peace we enjoy today are a direct result of their selflessness and dedication to putting country before self.
The day was made even more meaningful by the heartfelt thanks from local veterans and cemetery representatives. They expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, sharing how much it means to see the younger generation step up to honor those who served. We are incredibly proud of our student leaders, their friends, and their families. By coming together to honor our fallen heroes, they beautifully represented our school and ensured that these vital sacrifices are never forgotten.

๐ Class Spotlight ๐ฆ
STEM
We were thrilled to welcome guest speakers from Fiber Materials Inc. (Biddeford, ME) to speak with our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders! They gave our students a fascinating look into their real-world engineering work, which supports Space Exploration and Military Defense. It was an incredible opportunity for the kids to see how the concepts they learn in class apply to cutting-edge technology and careers right here in Maine.
๐ ๏ธ Grade-Level Updates
Our 8th graders have been stepping into the shoes of mechanical engineers using our Sphero Blueprint Build kits.
The Challenge: Design an elastic band car utilizing potential and kinetic energy.
The Result: Success! Students successfully engineered cars that traveled a whopping 400 centimeters down the hallway.
Whatโs Next: Next week, they will start incorporating electricity into their mechanical builds, using electrical bits from the kits to take their designs to the next level!
The 7th-grade classrooms have turned into a modern-day Colosseum!
The Challenge: Students are designing and building custom chariots under strict building constraints.
The Twist: They are using a Sphero Bolt+ robot as the "horsepower" to pull their creations.
The Goal: Putting their engineering to the test in an upcoming competitive race!
Our 6th grade engineers are diving headfirst into the world of computer science and automation.
The Challenge: Working with the LEGO Spike Prime build kits.
The Goal: Students are learning how to write actual lines of code to bring their LEGO creations to life, using motors and sensors to get things moving.
Thank you for your continued support at home! Be sure to ask your student how their builds are going and what challenges they've solved this week.
