Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year! We are thrilled to see our students and families on campus soon! It is our ongoing commitment to build relationships with students and deliver quality instruction every day. La Vernia High School teachers and staff will continue to serve all students as they strive to achieve academic and personal success. Our theme this year is Creating the Future, One Blueprint at a Time! As we begin another year of learning, we will keep true to our La Vernia High School beliefs and values of collaboration, support, and belonging as we provide a safe, healthy, and happy teaching and learning environment for our students, parents, and staff.

Communication:

Communication is essential as we work together to ensure your child has a successful school year. Although many avenues regarding communication outlets are mentioned below, please never hesitate to reach out directly at any time with questions or concerns you may have.

Campus contact information, along with dates, district calendar, parent portal, transportation updates, lunch menus, and other important documents can be found on the district website: www.lvisd.org. I also encourage you to join our campus Facebook page for La Vernia High School. This social media platform will provide quick campus reminders and updates. In addition, a campus newsletter will be sent out via email to feature campus highlights. Please make sure your email address is up-to-date in our records. Your child’s teachers will also provide you with more specific information regarding classroom and teacher communication. Please continue to utilize the Parent Portal to track grades and attendance. LVISD and La Vernia High School will continue to distribute important information via ROOMS/Thrillshare.

Open House:

We always look forward to meeting and greeting our parents at Open House. Please mark your calendars to visit La Vernia High School on Monday, August 24, 2026, 5:30-7:00 PM. Parents are welcome to park in the parking lots of the 400 and 500 building or in the Auditorium parking lot.

Child Nutrition will also be showcasing some of the new menu items offered this year. Visit the cafeteria to sample some of the tasty new options our students will be enjoying this school year.

Dates to Remember:

In an effort to help you prepare for the school year, we have shared some upcoming dates and events. Please continue to check our website and newsletters for changes and additions.

First Day of School: Monday, August 3

No School ~ Labor Day: Monday, September 7

Picture Retake #1: Tuesday, September 8

Picture Retake #2 Tuesday, November 3

Thanksgiving Break: Monday-Friday, November 23-27

Holiday Break: Friday, December 18 - Monday, January 4

First Day of School:

Your patience is greatly appreciated in the first few weeks of school as we work through creating a seamless routine with our daily procedures, parking, car rider line, and transportation pick-up and drop-off times. The cafeteria will begin accepting students at 7:30 a.m. Students arriving prior to the first bell should report to the cafeteria. Staff will be ready to greet your student and direct him/her to the appropriate class.

A Few Other Important Reminders:

  • Due to construction renovations, the front office is temporarily located in the front area of the 500 building (prior 500 building boardroom). Please look for signage indicating location and doorbell for entry. Visitor parking is available in the parallel parking lane just outside of the 400 building. Please do not park in the regular parking lots, as these are designated for students and staff.

  • Our counseling center is now located in the front area of the 400 building. Visitor parking is available in the parallel parking lane just outside of the 400 building. Please do not park in the regular parking lots, as these are designated for students and staff.

  • To park on campus, students must purchase a parking pass. Students may visit Mrs. Javior in the counseling center with required paperwork to obtain a parking pass.

  • Texas law (House Bill 1481) bans the use of cell phones and personal communication devices during the school day starting this school year. Students shall not use a personal communication device on school property during the school day (7:30 AM -4:37 PM). The device must be turned off and stored in a backpack or purse or not brought to campus. This includes all communication devices: cell phones, smart watches, smart glasses, air pods, smart glasses, tablets, etc.

  • Food, drink, and lunch deliveries will be limited to the campus lunch time window of 11:00-1:45. For your convenience, a drop-off cart will be located outside the cafeteria door under the awning.

  • Please review the traffic flow routes and parking updates due to construction.

  • More information regarding attendance, traffic information, school supply lists, etc. is available in LVISD’s Back to School Guide: https://canva.link/33tgrtq3hfn98ln

Finally, I want to welcome you once again to a great year ahead! Please never hesitate to contact the office with any questions you may have. It is an honor to serve LVISD, and more importantly, your child as he/she continues moving toward academic and future success! I look forward to seeing your child soon!

Sincerely,

Time Between Passing Periods Extended for 2026-2027 School Year

To support students in arriving to class on time during the ongoing construction period, the LVISD School Board has approved the campus request to extend passing periods by one minute. Beginning in August 2026, the campus schedule will include a five-minute passing period, resulting in a revised school day end time of 4:37 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m.

This adjustment does not impact instructional minutes or employee contract time. Bus transportation will remain unaffected, as student loading times will continue to begin at 4:45 p.m. at the Junior High and approximately 5:00 p.m. at the High School.

We would like to express our appreciation to our Campus Leadership Team and to our students for voicing the need for this adjustment. While this change may not resolve every issue each day, it is a meaningful step toward improving transitions between classes.

La Vernia ISD is proud to announce that our Primary, Intermediate, Junior High and High School campuses have been awarded the Purple Star Campus Designation from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This honor recognizes our district’s commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.

The Purple Star Campus Designation is an award given by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to Texas districts and charter schools that meet specific criteria for supporting military-connected families. Each fall, TEA awards the Purple Star to applicants who meet the following criteria:

  1. Designate a campus-based military liaison who must:

    • Support military-connected students and their families.

    • Provide professional development opportunities for staff members on issues related to military-connected students.

  2. Create and maintain an easily accessible webpage with information for military- connected students and their families.

  3. Implement a campus transition program that includes:

    • Introductions to the school environment and processes.

    • A student leader or ambassador program, supported by a campus-based staff member.

    • Organizing and hosting newcomer social events, guided tours of the campus, and accompanying new students to lunch during their first week of school.

  4. Offer at least one of the following initiatives:

    • A resolution showing support for military-connected students and families.

    • Participation in the Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month.

    • A partnership with a school liaison officer to provide opportunities for active-duty military members.

The Purple Star Campus Designation highlights the hard work of our dedicated educators, counselors, and staff in ensuring that military-connected students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. As we celebrate this achievement, we look forward to continuing our support of military families and enhancing the resources available to ensure their success.
