The FinalStretchThe Wave: JUNE 2024

The push to the finish...

Our las month of school is here and we are ready for some fun and celebrations as we wrap up all that we have been working on this year.

School Updates School Updates

A few things to note:

1. There is a PA Day on JUNE 28. The last day of school is June 27th.

2. This week, we had a student experience an anaphylactic reaction to tree nuts while at school. While his lunch was nut free, he came into contact with a contaminated surface which caused the reaction. Our primary job at school is, of course, to keep all children safe. For this reason, our school will be moving to a nut-free building. We ask that you do not send nut products in your child's lunch any longer. If you have a student who packs their own lunch, please ensure you have a conversation with them about our new nut-free policy at school. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at the school.

3. Students play outside for prolonged periods during the day, especially when the weather is nice and we try to take learning outside too! Please ensure that students have sun protection (sunscreen, hats, etc) as well as water bottles.

From the office of Ms. G...

This year has been incredibly wonderful. Reflecting on this year, I am still bewildered to see how amazing the children here are and how they’ve grown, their strong families and how supportive the community as a whole is. The beauty of my job and where it is, never fails to amaze me. Thank you all for welcoming me so warmly and for your continued kindness.

I am having surgery, and the recovery will take me until the end of June, so unfortunately my last day here before summer will be June 7th . We are so fortunate to have Lynn come back to cover for me while I’m off. I will be back in August, but I’m sure I will see some of you on the island over the summer.

Our school was nut-aware, but now we are changing to nut free starting June 3rd, 2024. In our school we have a student with anaphylactic allergies to tree-nuts and we ask that parents, guardians and students not bring these items to school. Tree nuts are almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts (Nutella included), macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts (pignolias), pistachios and walnuts.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding to help ensure all our students are safe.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer and I can’t wait to see everyone in September!

Mrs. Caverly says...

What a month May was!

Our senior students were able to experience learning in so many different forms! First, they completed their final fundraiser for their year end trip, officially earning their full cost through their many different efforts!

They explored different skills with a 3 day woodworking project, showing patience and acceptance for making mistakes when trying something new. They competed at Road Race and Track an Field, and demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, determination and teamwork while there. A special congratulations to many of our athletes who came home with a ribbon for being in the Top 8 at the meet, and to Nolan and Riley who have qualified to compete at the district meet. They travelled to Gould Lake to experience some learning outside, to ESS to watch a play and see The Arts in action, and showed flexibility and perseverance through a week of EQAO testing!

As we roll into June, our focus will be on culminating projects, having fun, and celebrating a year of hard work as we prepare for our year end assembly on June 25th!

Ms Cooper says...

We have been doing so much stuff this past month. We would like to catch you up on everything. In Language, we finished our space biographies, and we started learning about poetry. We even learned a poem to present at the volunteer lunch. In Math we were learning about coding. When most of the grade 3s went to track the rest of us built and programed Lego robots. The other topic we learned about in Math last month was money. The grade 3s have been working really hard at writing the EQAO test and recently finished. Some exciting things that happened last month were Gould Lake, pizza days and Road Race. They were all really fun. A very exciting thing that is coming up is Tree Top Trekking we are super hyped!

From,

The Primary Class

Ms. Sutherland says...

It’s hard to believe that the last month of school is already upon us! It has been such a wonderful year of learning and growing together as classmates and a school community.

It was an absolute pleasure for the Senior class to host Mr. Bowley this past month who led us through our woodworking project. Each student exemplified excellent teamwork, goal-setting and communication skills in making their memory boxes and should be so proud of their accomplishments!

The Primaries have just completed their Social Studies units and have begun new units in Science on growth and change in animals and soils.

In French, the students have been learning about the 2024 Summer Olympics that will be held in Paris, France this July. We are learning about different summer sports and events such as breakdancing, fencing and equestrian sports, as well as the French culture of Paris.

I hope all students and families will have a fantastic summer!
