PCHS WeeklyUpdatesFebruary 12, 2021

Message from Principals McBride & Woods

Happy long Valentine's & Presidents' Day weekend! Thank you to those of you who reached out to us this week as we transition into our new roles at PCHS, including those of you who joined us at last night's virtual meet & greet. We look forward to the work ahead! If you did not have a chance to read our PCHS Admin Transition Update, it is linked here.

Please know that we are committed to honoring our students by upholding as many of the remaining annual events that we can by doing so creatively within the constraints of health and safety guidelines. Our students have had to endure so many losses in the last year in terms of traditional high school rituals. We see this. We feel it. Students deserve a meaningful end to the year that includes their input and leadership, and yours! If you have ideas that you'd like to share, please fill out this short survey!

We do have one event on the books already and one in the works...

Save the Date Senior Families! - Graduation is scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at Pirate Stadium! (Rain Date: June 6) We are looking forward to working in partnership with student leadership to create a special day for our Seniors and their families in an environment that is safe and special to us all.

And our Class of 2022 Class Council is looking into options for prom with some promising ideas brewing! More soon!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mrs. McBride & Mrs. Woods

Congratulations to our December 2020 Academic Award Recipients!!

We are excited to recognize these academic powerhouses further next week! Our in-person learners earning pins will receive them on Thursday, February 18 during the last 30min of 7th hour. Our PVA learners should expect their awards in the mail by that time as well. We will be saying a few words over the announcements next Thursday to honor our recipients before 7th hour teachers distribute the awards in front of the class. We will be inviting PVA students to join their 7th hour via Zoom at that time as well!

Breakfast & Lunch: Free for PCHS Students through June!

Near the end of 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) extended nationwide waivers for specific requirements to help schools continue to provide meals to children during the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Originally expiring on December 31, 2020, these USDA waivers allow for meals to be provided FREE to all students, regardless of how learning is planned (remote, hybrid, or in-person) under the extended summer food service program (E-SFSP). These program flexibilities are now available through June 30, 2021.

Running late or just want to cut down your grocery budget? Encourage your student to get a free breakfast or lunch!

Some Managerial Reminders

Parents/Guardians, thank you for making a point of touching upon these items with your student(s)!

  • PCHS is a closed campus. Moving forward, if a student is leaving the building, they should anticipate being asked more directly where they're headed. If a student is approved to leave the building (i.e. for CTE or Dual Enrollment), they may exit the building through the North or South entrances or the Athletic doors. The swim exit will be closed during school hours. This is in service of ensuring all students are safely where they should be!
  • If students are arriving late to school, they will need to park in the Main Entrance lot (South side) in order to sign in at the Main Office. The North doors will be locked after 7:45am.
  • 4 students to a lunch table, maximum!
  • Keep those masks above the nose! Let's continue keeping ourselves and our community safe. We know there is fatigue around this. We all feel it, but in order to keep us all in school and healthy, we have to stay committed to the most proven virus transmission prevention strategies. Please send your student to school with their own mask, if possible. We've had a recent spike in students relying upon the back-up medical masks we have at school. We're running through them like hot cakes, and could use your support to ensure your student comes prepared with one of their own.
