Hello Primary Pups! Hello Primary Pups!

A Note from Mrs. Bagarozza (Mrs. B)

Hello Primary Pup Families,

Thank you for continuing to be so patient about the weather because today was the perfect day for water day! The kids had a great time. Thank you to the PTA for the ice pops and the new rainbow inflatable water toy!

This is our last week of the school year here at WPS. We have our class parties on Thursday that your teachers have communicated with you about. Our last day is Friday and we will give all students clappers as we "clap them out" for the last time this year.

Monday, June 9th is our graduation for our students in the 12:00 pm session. Please read below for lots of important information. You will also receive a graduation FAQ in your child's backpack tomorrow. Please note that the parents of our graduating students are responsible for bringing their children directly to the Wall Intermediate School that day.

Where: Wall Intermediate School (WIS) auditorium

When: The graduation ceremony is at 10 am on Monday, June 9th. You can drop your children off by 9:45 in the library at WIS. The ceremony will be about 40 minutes.

Who: Our students in our 12:00 pm classes will be graduating and there is NO limit on who can attend as the WIS auditorium is very large.

What to wear: Please make sure your child is wearing shoes that they can easily walk in and please ensure their hair is styled in a way that allows us to put their graduation cap on. This may mean no pony tails or hair styles like that. Everything else is up to you! We will put their caps and gowns on in the WIS library once they get here.

Parking: We ask that you park across the street at the Wall Municipal Center. We will provide busing from that parking lot to WIS. It will be a great opportunity to take the "big bus" with your child before they get a chance to do it in kindergarten next year. These buses will start running at 9:30 am.

After graduation: We will have photo opportunities available in the WIS library for you to bring your child to after you get them from graduation in the auditorium.

Mr. Ernie and Mr. Jake will be there to help you find the library and auditorium and make sure everything runs smoothly.

As shared previously, this year, to honor our graduating pups, we are inviting every family to write a message to their child to be published in our program. Each family can only submit ONE message per child. Please keep these message to 120 characters or less (that includes letters, numbers, and punctuation but NOT spaces). Complete this form linked below by Tuesday, June 3rd.

Bottle and Pacifier Weaning

To successfully wean your child from bottles and pacifiers, consider a gradual approach, offering alternatives like cups and comfort objects, and celebrating milestones with positive reinforcement.

Bottle Weaning Tips:

  • Introduce Cups Early:
Start offering drinks in a cup around 6 months, allowing your child to practice holding and drinking from it.

  • Gradual Reduction:
Slowly decrease the number of bottle feedings, starting with less important times like naps or middle of the day.

  • Make Cups Appealing:
Let your child choose their cup, decorate it, or try a fun straw to encourage them to drink from it.

  • Offer Alternatives:
Replace bottle feedings with cups or snacks.

  • Bedtime Bottles:
Bedtime bottles can be the most challenging to eliminate, so be prepared to offer extra comfort and reassurance.

  • Don't Hide Bottles:
Instead of hiding bottles, pack them away and offer a cup and/or snack when your child asks for a bottle.

  • Offer Drinks Frequently:
Offer drinks in a cup frequently throughout the day, including with meals and snacks.

  • Talk to a Professional:
If you're unsure whether to take an immediate or a gradual approach to weaning, talk to your GP or child and family health nurse.

Pacifier Weaning Tips:

  • Gradual Reduction:
Start by limiting pacifier use to specific times, like naps or bedtime, and gradually reduce the situations where it's used.

  • Offer Comfort Alternatives:
Introduce alternative comfort objects, like a stuffed animal or blanket, to help your child feel secure.

  • Use Positive Reinforcement:
Praise your child for not using the pacifier and reward them for giving it up.

  • Get Creative:
Consider using a "Binky Fairy" or having a "Goodbye, Pacifier!" party to make the transition more fun.

  • Don't Snipe the Pacifier:
Avoid snipping the tip of the pacifier, as it can make sucking more difficult and could lead to swallowing in too much air or choking.

  • Don't Start During Life Changes or Illnesses:
Delay weaning from the pacifier during an acute illness, infection, or surgery, or during major life changes.

  • Go Cold Turkey:
Some parents find success by removing all pacifiers from the house and setting a specific date to eliminate pacifier use.
