Principalās Update
Dear Washington Families,
Building Success Together!
We are off to a wonderful start, and we want to celebrate our students for their commitment to being at school and ready to learn! Congratulations to our 1st grade students for having the highest attendance in September, with Kindergarten coming in a close second! Way to go! š Thank you to our families for helping make regular attendance a priority.
Every day and every minute matters! When students attend school consistently and arrive on time, they have more opportunities to learn, connect with their teachers and classmates, and build important skills. Arriving on time is especially important because students can participate in ATI time, which provides targeted support and interventions based on their individual learning needs. When students arrive late, they may miss valuable instructional time that is designed specifically to help them grow.
A Quick Backpack Check
Parents and caregivers, please take a moment to check your child's backpack before leaving home each morning. We have noticed that students are bringing toys, Squishies, fidgets, and other items from home that can become distractions during learning time. These items can make it difficult for studentsāand sometimes those around themāto stay focused and engaged at their learning levels. Unless an item is specifically requested by the teacher or school, please leave toys and fidgets at home.
Reviewing Our School-Wide Expectations
Your support at home also makes a big difference! Please take a few minutes to review our three school-wide expectations with your child:
- Be Safe ā Make choices that keep yourself and others safe.
- Be Respectful ā Use kind words, listen to others, and treat people and property with care.
- Be Responsible ā Make good choices, take care of your belongings, and be ready to learn.
When school and home work together, students are better supported and more successful. Thank you for partnering with us to help your childāand all of our studentsāhave a positive, productive, and successful school year!

Parent Information
School Hours
Breakfast for our students starts at 7:25 . Please have your student at school in their class by 7:55 am. Any student who arrives after 8:00 needs to check in the office for a tardy slip.
Kids Home Sick
We love having your students here at school. However we also want to ensure they are ready to learn. If your student is sick, please keep them home and notify the office at 541-842-3860.
We follow the guidelines of Oregon Health Authority. Follow the link for more information on when to keep your student home and for how long: https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/healthsafety/Documents/Symptom-based%20Exclusion%20Chart.pdf
School Arrival / Dismissal
When dropping off students please make sure your student is using the sidewalks, and one of our two crosswalks. We have seen quite a few students dropped off in the middle of the street and/or sent across the street instead of using the sidewalk and crosswalk. This can lead to close calls - and we have seen a few! Our number one goal is student safety.
MESSAGES/EARLY PICK UPS
We know that plans change and students have different arrangements. If you need to get a message to your student, please provide the information before 2pm. It is very difficult to try to send out messages after 2pm due to end-of-class transitions.
