Greetings!
November 2025: A Message from Dr. DeRosa...
Attention: WHS Cubs of Character!
Dear WHS Families,
It is that time of year when we reflect on our blessings. I am truly grateful to be affiliated with such a supportive and engaging school community. Your children arrive each day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a genuine eagerness to learn—and that energy is a direct reflection of the love and encouragement they receive at home. It was truly a pleasure to see so many of you during conferences over the past few days. These opportunities to connect—sharing insights, celebrating progress, and partnering in your child’s growth—are incredibly meaningful and they reinforce the strong partnership we share in nurturing each student’s success. We are reminded that education is most powerful when it is a shared journey between school and family. (Pictured below at a conference are parent Mr. Brian Stelter and third grade teacher Mrs. Lori Yukniewicz.)
As we head into the season of gratitude, I want to thank you for your continued support, your involvement, and the trust you place in us each day. Whether it’s through volunteering, attending events, or simply encouraging your child’s learning at home, your contributions make a meaningful difference.
Warmly,
Dr. Ann T. DeRosa

Halloween Highlights at WHS! 🎃
Spooktacular Times!
The Halloween spirit was alive and well at WHS! Our Home School Association Trunk-or-Treat event was a tremendous success, bringing families together for an evening of fun, creativity, and community. One of the highlights was our Disney-themed pumpkin decorating contest—families had a blast voting for their favorites! (Be sure to check out the video below to see all the incredible pumpkin creations!)
Classroom activities were robust and festive as well. Mr. Abney and Mrs. Sellers even joined in the fun. They created a huge spider web in the Gym and students had a chance to play a holiday tag game on scooters as their teachers dressed like Mighty Ducks and circulated around the room on rollerblades! (Please see the picture below!)
Our Halloween parties and parades were bursting with costumes, laughter, treats, and cheer! (Take a look at some of those adorable photos!)
A special thanks to everyone who helped make this spooky season so special!

Salute to Our Heroes Fundraiser: Raffle to Ride to School in a Fire Truck 🚒
All Proceeds Benefit the Whitehouse Station Fire Company!
It is Gratitude Month at WHS and there is no better time to honor our local firefighters. We’re holding a special fundraiser to support the Whitehouse Station Fire Company — and to give your child a chance to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience! In an effort to support our hometown heroes, we are selling tickets at $5 each for a chance to enter your child into a contest to be picked up for school in a fire truck! One lucky student from each grade (K–3) will be chosen at random. The fundraiser will take place from now until November 24. Winners will be announced before Thanksgiving Break on November 26, and the ride to school will take place on December 12. (Logistics for the ride will be finalized after winners are selected based on their home locations.)
You can buy your tickets in the Main Office or through Venmo @Missy-Mest and include the student's name, grade, and teacher in the comments.
A huge thank you to the Whitehouse Station Fire Company and all of our local first responder volunteers for their continued partnership — including their participation in our Trunk-or-Treat event and the two safety assemblies during Fire Prevention Week.
Let’s show our gratitude and support our hometown heroes! ❤️🔥
Literacy "BWIN" Mentorship
Be Who I Needed !
In October, inspired by Dr. Emily Bengels, Whitehouse School launched our “Be Who I Needed” Literacy Mentorship program. This vibrant new initiative is designed to foster a love of reading and social-emotional learning (SEL) among children. Each month, second and third grade students gather after school with volunteer mentors from both middle school and the senior citizen community.
Together, they explore engaging literacy activities that build confidence, resilience, and joy in reading. The program is rooted in the belief that reading is a lifelong journey—one that sometimes requires grit, and always benefits from encouragement. Our inaugural session celebrated language through poetry, jokes, and animal-themed word games. Next month, we’ll journey into “Childhood Around the World,” continuing to spark curiosity and connection through thoughtfully chosen themes. We’re thrilled by the enthusiasm surrounding this program and are actively seeking additional middle school volunteers and community members to help us grow. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor or learning more, we’d love to hear from you!
