Dear Garden Road Families,

On Thursday it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces coming through the gate, excited to start the new year. All hands were on deck to help our students find their way around campus, get used to the bell schedule, get their lunches and have a great day! Thank you to all of you who made drop off at the classroom an easy process for your students.

Mr. Ryan Hicks joined us as our new assistant principal! He comes to us from Chapparal Elementary where he has been a school counselor. Mr. Hicks enjoyed meeting students and seeing them on the playground and in classrooms. Please say hi to him and introduce yourself when you see him around campus.

We’re thrilled to kick off Running Club for the new school year starting Wednesday, September 9! Running Club meets every morning at 7:25 AM, students enter through the MPR gate.

This year, we are encouraging families to register online. Please use the QR or click this link for registration. We’re asking that all students register in advance so we can collect parent contact information and reduce printing costs. Lanyards will only be printed for students who are registered. Registration is due by August 31st. Parent volunteers will scan the lanyards each morning so students can earn fun prizes as they rack up miles.

Prizes in the past have included:

• Lanyards

• Bracelets

• Shirts for reaching 50 and 100 miles

• Beanies

• Socks

• Water bottles

For TK & Kindergarten: Running Club will take place during school on Wednesdays and Fridays with their classes. No registration is required for TK/K students.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help scan lanyards and cheer on the runners! If you’d like to help, please contact Bethany Wilde at bethanymwilde@gmail.com. Volunteers must be cleared through the office to be on campus.

We hope everyone will come out to learn more about Cub Scout Pack 617 on Sunday, August 23rd 1-3pm at Garden Road Park. Joining Cub Scouts helps children build character, make new friends, and learn outdoor and life skills through family-focused activities. We have a monthly Pack meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and additional outings and Den meetings to inspire and teach kids thru scouting principles.

GRES Foundation is partnering with Impact Martial Arts of Poway to offer our Eagles an affordable chance to try martial arts! For ages 4 and up, $99 includes 4 weeks of classes, a full white uniform, and white belt.

To make the deal sweeter, 100% of the proceeds from this offer will be donated back to Garden Road Elementary School!

These funds will provide educational enrichments like our foundation-funded art program, Golden Ticket incentives, new library books, access to educational apps, parent support workshops, field trip grants, classroom materials, and much more.
