Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission

Raven News,September 18, 2023Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission

A Message From Mrs. Gabriela Elliott, Campus Principal

Greetings Ravens! Thank you for week 7!! Lots of learning, new traditions and collaboration. What a great week of Homecoming festivities. I deeply enjoyed the participation and creative costumes and school pride. Shoutout to our Raven Cheer and Student Council for representing Eastlake Middle School during the Homecoming Parade, pep rally and Football Night. The sense of school pride was evident and strong!

A shoutout to our parents also for meeting with us this week. We have more meetings this upcoming week to discuss student progress and plans to ensure that all of our scholars will succeed.

I also want to remind all of our scholars that we have after school Power Hour (formally known as tutoring). Our teachers are communicating with our students and parents. Everyone is invited. Please let us know how we can help.

Thank you parents for submitting your child's meal applications. We are down to 26 applications pending. We truly appreciate your support and assistance.

Criteria for Free and Reduced-Price Meal Benefits

  1. Income - Household income that is at or below the income eligibility levels.
  2. Categorical or Automatic Eligibility - Household receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).
  3. Program Participant - Child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant, or displaced by a declared disaster.

Income Eligibility

For those households that qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on income, an adult in the household must fill out a free and reduced-price meal application online. For more information, contact Laura Lara, CNS Coordinator, 12100 Eastlake, El Paso, Texas, 79928, 915-937-0450. Those individuals filling out the application will need to provide the following information:

  1. Names of all household members
  2. Amount, frequency, and source of current income for each household member
  3. Last 4 digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application or, if the adult does not have a social security number, check the box for “No Social Security number”
  4. Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct

Some Reminders:

Attendance: Let's make sure our Ravens are in school every day, all day. Our goal for this school year is 97% school-wide. Current Attendance 6th Grade: 96.37% that is .20% higher than last week, 7th Grade: 96.75% that is .07% lower compared to last week, 8th Grade: 95.72% that is 13% higher than last week. Overall: 96.30% that is .09% higher than the week before - Woohoo!!! All shoutout to 6th and 8th graders for having improved attendance all week and a loud shoutout for overall improvement in attendance for two consecutive weeks. Thank you parents. Lets be in school every day and continue improving our attendance every week. I am looking forward to more growth next week. Go Ravens!!

After School Academic Power Hour: All of our Ravens are invited to participate in acceleration, intervention and enrichment. After school transportation will be provided. There is greatness on the horizon for our Ravens!!

Bus Riders: It is very important for scholars riding the bus to have an ID. They must scan upon boarding and exiting and tracked through Ride 360. Please have your child stop by the library for a new card. First ID is free, replacements are $5. Riding the bus is a privilege. Speak to your child about proper behavior in the bus. They don't want to loose the privilege of riding the bus.

Hispanic Heritage Month: In September of 1968, congress authorized National Hispanic Heritage Week to be observed during the week of September 15. In 1989, it was expanded to a monthlong celebration (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). The significance in the dates is in the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Plus Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18., respectively. - Census.Gov/Schools

Intersession School: Mark your calendars. Intersession school is October 2-5 and all are invited to attend.

School Dances: School dances are a privilege. Students with excessive absences, failing grades or any discipline referral will not be allowed to attend. Every 9 weeks is a new opportunity to reset do things better. Our first school dance will be September 29, 2023.

Arriving On Time and Classroom Transitions: Thank you parents for getting your children to school on time. First bell rings at 7:45am and our tardy bell rings at 8:00am. We also want to ensure that students transition between classes on time. Please note, students not arriving to school on time or during transitions will begin serving lunch detention. Three or more tardies a week can result in a discipline referral. Please encourage your child to get to their classes on time.

Capturing Kid's Hearts: Please read attached newsletter for our September Theme: Empathy on CKH and find ways you can help support and teach Empathy at home.

Raven of The Month: I am excited to be hosting our very first Raven of the Month for our 6th Grade Scholars. Our teachers have nominated students and will be recognizing them during a special awards ceremony on September 21st. Parents of those involved received an invitation.

Do You Have a Meal Balance?

We will continue making phone calls and sending letters home for pending balances at the campus level. Please note that any student with any balance (lunch, fundraiser or technology) will not be able to take part in any campus event such as dances. Please take care of your campus balances. You can see pending lunch balances by logging into My SchoolBucks.

Have you filled out the Meal Application already?

We have 26 students pending their lunch application. As a reminder, this is required of ALL students regardless of eligibility. Please complete your application, if you have not done so already. Thank you for your support.

Application Direct Link https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. You may also call 937-0450 or visit www.sisd.net/article/1166210 to learn more.

Attendance Reminders

Attending school everyday is critical for student success. Every period counts. Please communicate with attendanceeastlakemiddle@sisd.net, if your child is absent. With your support, we will continue to develop the very real gifts and talents of all of our scholars. The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. NEW: This year, district policy indicates parents/guardians have 72 hours to submit excuse notes justifying child's absence.

Incentive: Perfect attendance Monday-Friday, earns our scholars Jeans on Friday. Way to make it count Ravens!

Library Corner

We welcome all Eastlake MS students to become Raven Readers! Students are expected to check-out and read at least 4 books every marking period to support their literacy. To best encourage this, we provide a great selection of books students will be interested in picking for independent reading, including graphic novels!

The library is promoting different types of books through displays. We invite you to check them out!

Would you like to be a Parent Volunteer?

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer? While we are still finalizing our date for the informational meeting, you can complete your district background check now through this link. https://my.sisd.net/public_apps/dps-cch-public/#!/home/

Background checks must be done yearly with them being valid from July 1 to June 30 of the current school year. You will need to be cleared by the district and attend one of our orientations. The orientations will allow you to learn about the process of coming into the campus and the various opportunities available. More information about these orientations will be shared once finalized.

We would love to have your help!
