Principal's Corner - August 28, 2026
Dear Squire Families,
I have to start with a HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us for our first PTA meeting of the year. We had a standing-room-only crowd, and that is something worth celebrating! Seeing so many parents come together to support our students, staff and school was pretty incredible. We say all the time that it takes a village, and our Squire village showed up in a BIG way!
Speaking of parent engagement, we hope to see all of our Squire parents at Curriculum Night next Tuesday evening. This is an important opportunity to spend time with your child’s teachers, learn more about what your Squire will be learning this year, and discover ways you can support their academic success at home. One of the greatest advantages we can give our students is a strong partnership between home and school, and Curriculum Night is a great place to continue building that partnership.
And while we’re talking about getting involved… we want YOU at LTE! We are still looking for some amazing parent volunteers to help in Art and Music, as well as parents interested in serving as Room Moms and Dads this year. We LOVE having our families in the building, and we would love to see even more of you on campus this year! Be sure to check out the volunteer sign-ups and additional details included in this newsletter.
Thank you for continuing to show up for LTE in so many ways — attending meetings, volunteering, partnering with teachers and getting your Squires here each morning ready to learn. When our families and school work together, our students are the ones who benefit most.
With appreciation,
Amanda Prehn

Thank you, parents, for helping our Squires get to school every day and on time! Since implementing our new tardy practices, we have seen fewer and fewer students arriving late in the mornings. That means more Squires are starting their day alongside their classmates, ready to learn — and we appreciate everything you do each morning to make that happen.
Daily attendance is especially important right now as our students participate in beginning-of-the-year reading and math assessments. These assessments help teachers understand where students are starting, identify areas of strength and growth, and help students begin setting meaningful goals for themselves. We look forward to sharing this information with you during our upcoming parent conferences at the beginning of October.
Being here each day gives our Squires the opportunity to participate fully, set goals and — one of our favorite things — celebrate how much they grow over time!
Save the Date for Curriculum Night
We are excited to welcome parents to join us for Curriculum Night next Tuesday, September 8th. Parent engagement is so important for student success! We look forward to sharing important information on how you can best support your child's academic growth this school year. It's a team effort and your teachers are dedicating this important time to connect and share how we will ensure all of our Squires reach their full potential this year!
Please plan to join us at the time listed below for each grade level. Each teacher will be hosting parents in their classrooms and administration will be on hand to connect with families as well. Our entire team is here to see our Squires shine this year - we look forward to seeing you soon!
Smart Tag Dismissal Reminders
Please use our Smart Tag system for entering absences, dismissal changes and early pickups. You will need your child’s Student ID to set it up (available in Skyward, your welcome email or by contacting Ashley Rebold, our school registrar, for assistance).
Students without a documented absence or doctor's note (if applicable) will be marked as unexcused. Notes must be received within 3 days of your child returning to school. Use Smart Tag to notify teachers and the office staff of the absence. Email any related documentation or attachments to rebolda@ltisdschools.org – If you need assistance using Smart Tag, email Ms. Rebold or stop by the front desk.
DISCOVERY/GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM REFERRAL - DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 10/15
Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
Discovery, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is the enrichment program provided for students who have been identified as intellectually gifted and talented. All students are eligible to be selected for the Discovery program at each campus. In order to be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. The Discovery Program is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via Google form.
Elementary Form - For Grades 1, 3, 4, 5
Second Graders will not need a referral. The entire grade level will be screened in October. More information to come.
Kindergarten students can be referred for GT testing beginning in January 2027. More details will be shared regarding this process at the end of the first semester.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit the Google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator. (This applies to families that haven’t already been in touch with the GT coordinator.)
Parents can submit referrals for screening by October 15, 2026. Testing will occur during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the next opportunity for the student to be screened will be the following academic year. Spring screening is reserved for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed and for kindergarten students.
The forms, program information and campus coordinator names can be found on the district Gifted and Talented page.
Once the request is submitted through the Google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email after October 15th to share pertinent information.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator at any time with questions.
