BOND UPDATE
September 14, 2026
π§ GOUNDBREAKING! π§
Construction Begins on New Middle School Offices π¨
On August 17, members of the design team, administration, Board of Education, and staff members gathered for a groundbreaking celebration kicking off the construction of our new middle school offices.
Main Office Relocation and Redesign
The new main office layout strengthens security, improves daily workflow, and better serves students and families. The redesign includes:
More efficient staff workflow through a centralized, connected layout.
Integration of βThe Denβ and student resource areas directly within the office suite for easier access and support.
Improved health room design to provide enhanced privacy, accessibility, and student care.
Consolidation of essential servicesβplacing all administrative and student support functions in one area rather than two.
Dedicated receiving area to streamline deliveries for operations and food service, reducing congestion and improving building safety.
Cafeteria Improvements
The updated cafeteria design focuses on improving student experience, operational efficiency, and community use. Key benefits include:
Expanded seating capacity for approximately 400 students, allowing for more flexible scheduling and improved comfort.
Dedicated serving and preparation spaces, improving meal service flow and overall functionality.
Centralized location adjacent to the main office to enhance safety and supervision during the school day.
Proximity to the front of the building, providing convenient access for after-hours and community events.
KEY
Green Line: current middle school entryway
Red Line: new portion of office (not yet constructed)
Blue Line: current student services office.
Pink Line: future cafeteria renovation.
NOTE: Both the Red and Blue areas will be joined to make the new middle school office.
TRAFFIC PATTERN UPDATE πππ
New 4-Way Stop Added!πβ
A NOTE OF THANKS for the patience and care that all are exercising with the NEW traffic patterns. For the most part, flow is going well.
Changes/Reminders:
- 4-WAY STOP. We're asking all to observe a 4-way stop located at the EAST END of the Middle School/Stadium Lot. This will allow all who are converging at this point equal access to move forward in a more efficient manner. Noted above in red.
- NO PARKING IN YELLOW AREA. We're requesting that no one park in the space just north of the ball diamond during arrival and drop-off times. This creates a DANGEROUS situation, as students have to cross the bus lane. Noted above in yellow.
TRANSPORTATION & MAINTENANCE BUILDING UPDATE π¨π§
Great progress continues on our new Maintenance & Transportation Facility! Recent work includes tree planting and landscaping, block filling and priming, ongoing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins, water piping in the corridor, framing for hard-lid ceilings, and completion of all overhead door installations.
π·Looking ahead, crews plan to finish site concrete, continue landscaping and rough-ins, begin pulling low-voltage wiring for security and technology, and install the remaining aluminum entrances.
The project remains scheduled for substantial completion in January 2027.
Weβre excited to see this important bond project continue taking shape and appreciate the continued support of our Mattawan community! πποΈ

BID PACKAGE 4 - 12 NEW TENNIS COURTS πΎπ₯
Work continues to move forward on the BP4 East project! Crews are currently building up the site pad, continuing excavation at the retention pond, and removing and salvaging existing fencing. π The progress photos show significant earthwork taking shape across the future tennis court area and surrounding site. The courts are scheduled to be online the Fall of 2027.
πΎ Coming up next: crews are expected to build an access road for upcoming concrete work and begin staking the tennis courts.
AS A REMINDER, part of the bond campaign is to be intentional about tree replacement. It will not necessarily be a one-to-one program, but the team is committed to replanting as many varieties of tree as able. For example, in the middle school project alone (new offices and parking out front), we are tentatively scheduled to plant over 100 trees throughout the north side of campus.
