6th Grade WINS!!!

The results are in, and the 6th grade wins the attendance challenge. The 6th graders had the highest daily attendance average of 92%, beating out our other grades by a hair. They win a digital-friendly social on Monday, 12.16.24, in the main gym during EC. Students report to EC on Monday as usual for attendance and announcements. Then, they will be escorted to the gym for music and social time with their classmates. The next challenge begins on January 6, 2025. More details on the next challenge are in next week's newsletter.

Early Dismissal Day, 12.20.24

Students will be dismissed at 11:25 AM on Friday for an Early Dismissal Day. All teachers and administration are engaged in professional development activities and will not be available until after 3:00 pm. Therefore, students are not allowed to stay at school. Please speak to your student regarding your expectations on where you want them to go after the early dismissal. Bus routes will run as usual on an altered schedule. However, please ensure your student knows what you want them to do after the early dismissal. See below for the bell schedule.

Winter Break

We have one more week of school, but we want to wish all families a wonder winter break. School is closed from 12.21.24 until 1.5.24. Teachers return to an Institute Day on 1.6.25 and students return to school on 1.7.25. Over winter break, we encourage students to enjoy their time with family and friends. Also, all students are encouraged to read a book and do as many Freckle Reading, Freckle Math, IXL, or other academic programs to continue to grow and learn. Have a wonderful Holiday break!

E-Learning Days

E-Learning will be utilized on days when inclement weather (or other emergencies) prohibit school to be in session. During the winter, all students should bring their District technology device home every day. School start times for an e-Learning Day remain the same. Attendance will be taken.

An e-Learning Day will include synchronous learning (live instruction with teacher). Teachers will share log in instructions through Seesaw (Kindergarten-second grade) and Google Classroom (third-eighth grades). E-learning paper packets that were distributed earlier this year are only to be completed if your children cannot log onto their devices on the e-Learning Day. For more information, visit https://www.joliet86.org/e-learning/

Families will be notified of an e-Learning Day directly by broadcast phone messages. Announcements will also be posted on the District website and District 86 social media accounts at Facebook (Joliet Public Schools District 86), X (@JolietSD86). We will make every effort to have in-person learning if it is safe. If you have questions, please let us know.

Grade Level Attendance Competition

Dear Gompers Families!

See below for the grade level attendance contest for your student to be a part of. They could help their grade level win the grand prize of a Device-Friendly Social on 12.16.25. Check it out and have your student arrive to school by 7:30 am daily to help their grade win the prize.

- - - - - o 0 o - - - - -

The Attendance Committee is excited to announce a Grade Level Attendance Competition that will take place from December 2-13. The goal of this competition is to encourage students to be present and on time every day, as tardiness will impact our grade level’s attendance percentage and student learning. Here’s how it works:

  • Competition Dates: December 2-13
  • What Counts: All tardy students will affect your grade level’s attendance score. Students must be present all day and arrive on time.
  • Prize: The grade level with the best attendance will earn a Device-Friendly Social during EC on Monday, December 16.

Winning grade level teachers will take their class to the gym for the device-friendly event, where students will be able to enjoy some well-deserved tech time. Let’s encourage our students to come to school on time, every day, and help make this competition a success!

Thank you for your support,
Attendance Committee

Attendance Matters!

Did you know that regular school attendance is one of the most important factors in your child’s academic success? Missing even a few days can add up quickly and impact your child's learning. Help your child succeed by:

  • Setting a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Preparing school items the night before to avoid morning rush.
  • Scheduling appointments and vacations outside of school hours whenever possible.
  • Letting us know if your child needs to be absent due to illness.

Every day in class builds on the previous one, so consistent attendance helps your child stay on track academically and socially. Let’s work together to ensure every day counts!

Register for Grade Notifications

Do you want to get automatic notices from Aspen when your student's grade is below your expectations? Aspen allows you to set automatic notifications when your student's grade is below a specific grade or percentage you choose. This is a great way to keep in touch with how your student is doing academically and contact teachers to help your student succeed. See below for instructions on how to set automatic notifications for your student. Please call our office at 815.727.5276

Who do you call if your student has a conflict with another student?

Please call our office at 815.727.5276, and ask to speak with your student's Academic Advisor. At Gompers, the Academic Advisors work with all the students at the grade level and travel with them from year to year. This is done so they get to know the students well and can support them through the three years they are at Gompers. Like a dean at the high school, Academic Advisors manage 90% of the disciplinary issues, and are a great resource to parents on problem-solving most conflicts that arise. Call or email your Academic Advisor for help right away. They are here for you to help your student succeed!
