This week we celebrated our Administration Team at BHS.

Once again, we would like to thank our Principal, Mrs. Lucas, our Assistant Principal's Ms. Beerbower, Mr. Childress, Mr. McMillan, and Mr. Roadarmel, our Administrative Interns, Ms. Hostutler and Mr. Street, our Director of Counseling, Julie Byrne and our Student Activities Director, Mr. Koch for setting high expectations for our students and educators. Each day our administration team works hard to shape the conditions for our teachers and students to learn and succeed.

We are excited to announce nominations for the PWCS Teacher and Support Employee of the year are now open. These awards are an opportunity to recognize the hard work and commitment of our staff. Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will install solar power systems at nine schools. Battlefield is one of the schools selected to participate in this solar project. In the upcoming weeks and months, our school will begin the implementation of having solar panels installed on the roof of our building.

On-site solar provides our schools a new opportunity to bring clean energy education into the classroom. This solar project will offer a classroom curriculum that aligns with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) from grades K-12. The curriculum includes teacher training, lesson plans, and hands-on kits for science experiments on energy.

Please know that safety continues to be one of our top priorities. Here are a few safety measures put in place during the installation:

• Crews working on the project will work outdoors and will work around student drop-off and pick-up times.
• Outside areas where crews are working will be blocked off and not accessible to students or parents.
• Anyone entering the building must enter through the main doors and must present a badge or sign-in in our front office.

This solar project continues to ensure the fulfillment of PWCS’ commitment to sustainability, the environment, environmental literacy, and reducing the carbon footprint. Please join the Counseling Advisory Committee (CAC) for the second meeting of the 2023-24 school year. The meeting will be held in the library from 6:00pm - 7:00pm on Wednesday, January 24th. Please email Mr. Woodside at woodsijs@pwcs.edu if you are able to attend.

Battlefield High School will host Rising 9th Grade Parent Night on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Department representatives will be available to answer questions in the Commons 5:30pm-6:30pm. A presentation by the Director of School Counseling, Julie Byrne, begins at 6:30pm in the auditorium. This meeting is for all parents/guardians of 8th graders who may attend Battlefield in the 2024-2025 school year. In case of inclement weather, the snow date for this event is Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

This past weekend 9 robotics teams from the Engineering Explorations & Engineering Analysis classes competed in Charlottesville. Students spent a good part of the first semester on design teams applying engineering principles to develop their robots and team 23565 - Tech Titans won their division and will advance on to the VA/MD/DC championship on February 3rd, hosted at Battlefield high school. This championship event/competition is free and open to the public and will spotlight the best robotics programs in the region. Interested in joining the National Honor Society for the 2024-2025 school year? The Battlefield High School Chapter of NHS webpage is now available to view. To navigate to this, please go to the Battlefield Website, then click on “Student Activities”, then click “Student Clubs and Activities”. There you will find NHS under Academic Clubs and Groups. Click on “National Honor Society (NHS)” and then click on “National Honor Society webpage”. Here is a direct link without the navigation to our National Honor Society Webpage. Once there, you can read all the information pertaining to NHS and the Spring Induction Ceremony taking place on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Please encourage any questions regarding joining NHS to come from the interested students themselves, not the parents or guardians. This will help develop student leadership and character skills.

Shout Outs are on sale now. Our graduation shout out slide show will run on youtube and at GMU prior to graduation.

Congratulate your senior with as many shout outs from as many family members (and pets!) as you like. Each one is $5.

Also, you may submit 1 photo of your senior to run in the slides show (no purchase necessary), details and shout outs can be purchased online. Photos can be submitted to BHS24seniors@gmail.com

Two lucky winners will receive:
