Welcome, 2nd Letter & 4th Quarter

This school year has been all about the changes and I am pleased to share that we aren't just making changes for right now, but for the long term future of our music program! Starting in the Fall, High School Band and High School Choir will meet five days a week, each. Students will earn a full credit for each class!!

Leadership Team has been working hard on creating a welcome video for our 6th grade students, so they can have a virtual tour and a big hello!

An opportunity to make some distanced music with our music friends at the West Carroll School District has come our way, and we said yes, of course!! See the article, below.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns ddeter@afcschools.net.

Happy Music Making,

Mrs. Deter

Masked Voice

Our dear friends at West Carroll School District have invited our choirs to participate in their finale song for the last week of their Masked Voice fundraiser! We couldn't say no to this invitation to their Fight Song. I have included links to the fundraiser details, as they strive to assist two students in their fight against cancer.

AFC Drama Club

Drama Club came about because we had two highly motivated young people who felt moved to include theatre arts to our school community! Kari H. & Loki G. have created a Drama Club that is open to grades 7-12, which encourages creativity, movement, and expression.

In December, we were able to have a virtual workshop with our friends and colleagues at Timber Lake Playhouse!! And, beginning in April, we will be rehearsing two skits on the stage at the Mills & Petrie that Kari H. wrote specifically for our Club.

Please let me know if you are interested in donating time or materials to assist the growth of our club!

Music Booster News

I've included last week's letter from Josh Stone, our Booster President. If you are interested in our Boosters, please join us on March 26, 5:15pm in the Band Room, JH/SH.

Featured Ensemble: 5th Grade Music

I have loved pushing in to the 5th Grade classrooms this year! In the Fall we dug in and explored the various music families: woodwinds, brass, percussion, and voice! Along with some other fun listening activities!!

When our schedules changed to four days a week, I proposed to Mrs. Warrenfeltz that we could follow safety guidelines and make music from our desks! And, she said, yes!!!

18 ukuleles later, a custom-built cart from Mrs. Viall and her team, we are making music on the ukuleles!!
