February Weekly Update ~ February 13, 2026
No School 2/16/26 - 2/20/26
A note from Mr. Lee
At Carter, we have focused on kindness and inclusion. Through our weekly Positive You lessons, classroom conversations, and assemblies focused on treating others with respect, we have challenged our students to think beyond themselves and truly live out what it means to RISE: Respectful, Individual Accountability, Safe, and Engaged.
Kindness should not just be a slogan. It should be apart of our culture.
Our Positive You lessons have encouraged students to reflect on their words, their actions, and the impact they have on others. We have also hosted assemblies that highlighted inclusion, empathy, and standing up for one another. The message has been clear: every student belongs at Carter.
As we head into break, we want to partner with you on something important.
Sometimes after a week off from school, we notice an uptick in social media issues when students return. With extra free time and increased screen time, misunderstandings, hurtful comments, or group chats can escalate quickly. What may start as a joke can turn into something that impacts relationships and carries over into the school day.
We encourage families to keep the message of kindness going at home:
Check in with your child about their social media activity.
Have conversations about appropriate online behavior and digital footprints.
Consider setting limits on screen time during the break.
Encourage face to face interactions. Invite a friend over, plan an outing, or get involved in activities that build real connections beyond a screen.
A simple question such as, “How are things going with your friends?” can open the door to meaningful conversation.
We are proud of the growth we have seen in our students this month. Let’s continue reinforcing those expectations together so that when we return, our focus can remain where it belongs: learning, growth, and preparing for the upcoming push toward PSAT and MSTEP.
Enjoy the well deserved break, spend time together, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to RISE.

YOU'RE MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE! MINI-ASSEMBLY
6th Grade girls had a 60-minute interactive presentation assembly which equipped participants through stories, music, and group activities this past Monday.
Social media can have a significant impact on girls’ sleep and mental health, especially during the middle and high school years. Many girls feel pressure to stay connected, respond to messages immediately, and keep up with posts late into the night, which often leads to reduced and disrupted sleep. The blue light from screens can also interfere with the body’s natural sleep cycle, making it harder to fall and stay asleep. In addition, constant exposure to curated images and highlight reels can contribute to unhealthy comparisons, lower self-esteem, anxiety, and feelings of inadequacy. Cyberbullying and fear of missing out (FOMO) can further increase stress levels. Over time, lack of sleep combined with heightened social pressure can negatively affect mood, concentration, and overall emotional well-being.
