WELCOMING SPRING
We were delighted to welcome students back this week! It was clear they enjoyed a wonderful spring break filled with time spent with family and friends. The positive energy throughout the building has been contagious, and it has been exciting to see students transition so smoothly back into learning.
This enthusiasm has been especially noticeable during our literacy and math workshops, where students have demonstrated strong focus and engagement.
After sharing stories about their break adventures, many students also expressed excitement about what lies ahead this spring. It has been a joy to hear them talk about warmer weather, upcoming field trips, class projects, and increased opportunities for outdoor activities. Over spring break, several school improvement projects also got underway. In addition to updates to our office conference room, we began a landscaping project that is expected to be completed toward the end of May. It has been exciting to see the addition of new rock, mulch, and several new trees, and we look forward to enjoying these refreshed spaces in the months ahead.
We are looking forward to a fantastic spring season together—one filled with continued learning, growth, and many memorable experiences!
PARENT INPUT FOR CLASS PLACEMENT
We know that creating a positive, collaborative learning environment is essential to all students’ success. Creating balanced classes that meet the needs of all students is a difficult endeavor. This process involves hours of thoughtful dialogue between classroom teachers, administrators and other staff members. The school takes this responsibility seriously and considers each child.
We value parent input and welcome any insight you wish to share about your child’s strengths, needs and learning style. We will consider all pertinent information that you share with the principal on or before Friday, April 10. While we welcome your input, we cannot honor specific teacher requests. Please share your thoughts on this google doc. Please communicate your thoughts via the google doc so we can track your input and refer back to it throughout the process.
HANDS ON LEARNING
At Gold Rush, we are proud to offer not only a strong academic program, but also a diverse and enriching specials program for all students in grades K–5. It is truly exciting to see students come to life through music, art, STEAMM, physical education and Spanish. The range of experiences in these areas are both meaningful and inspiring.
Students across grade levels are engaged in a variety of creative and hands-on learning opportunities. Fourth-grade students recently performed a musical tribute showcasing their learning about Colorado history, while fifth graders are building their musical skills by playing the ukulele to some of their favorite songs. In art, intermediate students have been designing and creating colorful masks, and in STEAMM, they are exploring scientific concepts through experiments such as creating “elephant toothpaste” and using solar panels to power motors.
In addition, students are developing teamwork and collaboration skills in physical education through activities like line soccer, and bringing stories to life as they reenact them in Spanish class. These are just a few examples of the many rich experiences students participate in each week.
These opportunities complement our daily, research-based instruction in literacy, math, science, and social studies. It is incredible to see students embrace a growth mindset as they try new things, take risks, and discover new interests—some of which may grow into lifelong hobbies or even future career paths.
We are incredibly proud of the comprehensive, well-rounded education Gold Rush provides. Our dedicated and talented educators work thoughtfully to create purposeful learning experiences that support the whole child, and it shows in the enthusiasm and growth we see in our students every day.
CMAS SCHEDULE
After Spring Break, students in grades three through five will participate in the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessment. This important statewide assessment measures students’ understanding of grade-level literacy and math standards and helps us better understand their academic progress.
Please mark the testing dates listed below on your calendar. We kindly ask that families schedule appointments outside of the testing window whenever possible, as it is important for students to be present and focused during the assessment. Consistent attendance helps students do their best and allows the testing process to run smoothly with minimal disruptions.
Thank you for your support in helping our students be prepared, well-rested, and ready to do their best!
