April 2025 Community Newsletter
Message from the Superintendent
Welcome to the April McFarland School Community Newsletter!
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter which includes information about important events, community activities, key projects, the incredible achievements of our students and staff, and updates on how we’re addressing challenges and planning for the future.
Some highlights for the past few months include:
Based on the unofficial election results from April 1, we are welcoming new school board member Meredith Hughey and welcoming back returning school board member Meghan Fessler to the school board!
The board has an important vote on Monday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. about whether to rename Conrad Elvehjem Primary School. More information on the recommendation from the Citizens Advisory Facilities Naming Committee can be found by: Reading through this document and/or watching the presentation to the board on March 17 here. You are encouraged to share your perspective on this important issue by:
Speaking during public comment at the very start of the meeting
Emailing the Superintendent and School Board Members
It is standardized testing season in the district as students have been taking the Wisconsin Forward Exam and ACT.
We are hiring! We have several open positions for the next school year. If you or someone you know might be interested please click here.
We are always looking for more substitute teachers and assistants. Please click here for more information!
Athletic achievements as our boys swim team won the state title…again, our hockey team advanced to the state semi-final, and we had several wrestlers who competed at state as well.
As a reminder, should you have any questions, ideas, or concerns please use this form or reach out to me personally. Your voice matters, and we are committed to open, transparent, and frequent communication with our community.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our schools—we couldn’t do this without you!
Stay Classy McFarland !

District Highlights
The McFarland Federation of Teachers received a generous $3,000 grant from AFT Wisconsin to purchase books from First Book for students in all of our schools!
Each #McFarlandStrong librarian was able to pick books for their students to take home for free! The high school used some of their money to also purchase backpacks and hygiene kits for students in need in the student services area.
This opportunity helps foster a love for reading in our students and builds their very own at-home libraries. Thank you for making a lasting impact on our young readers!! We are so thankful to have the support to encourage our Spartans to read!
The Blue Notes and a group of IMMS singers (8th grade choir and selected 7th graders filling in for 8th graders who were already gone on vacations) traveled around the village to sing at IMMS, CEPS, and WIS!
They ended the day at the high school sharing a meal together and having a chance for middle schoolers to learn about making music at the high school.
At IMMS, ALL students sang to start the assembly. Mr. Gregg wrote a circle song and all of our scholars got to experience making music together so they could understand the courage it takes to sing in front of other people. They did a GREAT JOB!
