We offer our Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers!
Message from our Superintendent
Dear Shorewood Families and Caregivers,
What a team! What a week! It has been a lot of fun to cheer on the Brewers together in our schools and we are thrilled they have won the World Series!
We are writing to let you know that school will be in session on Friday, October 30. As such, if you need to report a student absence, please follow normal attendance procedures. Unexcused absences will be recorded in accordance with District attendance policies.
Similar to the Brewers, many of our SHS athletics teams are enjoying successful fall athletics seasons. In order for student athletes to be eligible for this weekend’s scheduled athletic competitions, students must be in attendance on Friday per our Athletics and Activities Handbook.
Please reach out to your school principal if you have any questions, and congratulations to the World Series Champion Milwaukee Brewers!
Sincerely,
Laurie Burgos

IMPORTANT DATES
MESSAGE FROM DR. CARTER
Thursday, October 29, 2026
Dear Atwater Families,
We are pleased to share in the excitement surrounding this week's celebrations, including the World Series victory, the Monster Mash, and the holiday weekend. To support a successful and enjoyable experience for all participants, please note that scholars must be accompanied by an adult to attend the Monster Mash. Please make sure that suitable supervision is arranged for all students attending the event. Additionally, please be advised that masks and toy weapons are strictly prohibited.
In anticipation of the collection of sweet treats happening this weekend, we are asking that you limit what scholars bring to school. We want to ensure that November kicks off smoothly without the extra sugar impacting academics. Thank you in advance for your support!
Lice Checks: Please take a few minutes a couple of times each week to check your child’s hair and scalp. Catching lice early makes treatment easier and helps protect classmates and families.
Prevention & Checking: Check children's hair and scalp a couple of times each week under bright light, focusing behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. Continue daily checks for 3 to 4 weeks if lice are found.
Identification: Lice are small (sesame seed size), tan or brown, and fast-moving, while nits (eggs) are yellowish-white, teardrop-shaped, and firmly attached near the scalp.
Treatment: Use over-the-counter products like RID or NIX alongside essential combing and picking (since most shampoos do not kill eggs), or consult a physician if OTC options fail.
Next Steps & Hygiene: Notify the Atwater Health Office at 414-963-6962 x5121, inform close contacts, wash bedding and towels in hot water, avoid sharing personal items, and vacuum surfaces thoroughly.
For full details, refer to the Shorewood School District Head Lice Information Page across Shorewood.
Sincerely,
Janice Carter

General Music News
Atwater welcomes our student teacher to the music room, Ms. Nelson!
'My name is Annika Nelson and I am a student teacher from UW-Milwaukee! My primary instrument is the guitar, and I love teaching all kinds of music including general, band, guitar, ukulele, and much much more. Outside of school, I love reading and taking long walks with my partner and dog- we love the fall weather and crunchy leaves! I am very excited to be a part of the Atwater music program and get to know the community!'
General Music News: The Opera Is Coming to Atwater for 3rd and 4th Graders!
Opera for the Young will perform an adaptation of Dvořák's Rusalka at Atwater on Thursday, November 12.
This will be an incredible, INTERACTIVE performance! Third and fourth graders have been learning music from the opera and will sing along with the professional cast. Members of our Atwater Chorus will be featured as the onstage and stageside choruses. Students have been investigating opera, powerful voices, and expressive storytelling in preparation for this exciting event. Rusalka: A Mermaid's Tale has been adapted for elementary audiences, with a 45-minute performance, sung in English. One of the soprano Renée Fleming's favorite arias was Song to the Moon from Rusalka, and she sang it hundreds of times all over the world. Have you ever really missed someone and hoped they were thinking of you, too? This is what the mermaid Rusalka is singing about in the aria.
Resources for optional at-home practice!
- Atwater's Rusalka student handbook, including a synopsis and musical scores
- Opera for the Young's tutorial videos for student practice
