🥔 Planting Potatoes

We had so many cold days in February, but I felt spring joy last week. On February 28th, P2 and PA planted white, yellow, red, and purple potatoes! Thank you for planting!

The leaves will come out above the ground in a few weeks. We will harvest potatoes near the end of the school in May.

Q1. Will all the potatoes (white, yellow, red, & purple) grow leaves of the same shapes or colors?

Q2. How many potatoes will one plant produce?

🌱 Transplanting BABY greens

G5 planted various salad green seeds (spinach, lettuce, arugula, mizuna, and purple kale) in self-watering pots on Feb.10th. See how they grew in a few weeks!

On March 2nd, the learners transplanted their baby greens to the garden, naming their babies! Visit the garden and find their cute names and plants. I met some learners checking in on them during recess.

Q1. Which vegetables have you eaten, spinach, lettuce, arugula, mizuna, & purple kale?

Taking out the plants from the self-water pots was a little challenging.

I put plastic covers to protect the plants from animals. Thank you for the gallon jars!

🌺❄️ Front loop flowers

On February 23rd, the potted flowers in the front loop were all covered with ice! I didn't know if they were OK, but when I closely looked at them, the leaves and flowers kept their colors and didn't look dead.

I took them inside, and the ice melted quickly. The plants seemed fine. It was a wonderful experience to see this interesting process, and I wanted to show it to the kids.

On February 25th, when it got a little warmer, the flowers still looked good, and I put them back to the outside. They were fine for a week, but recently, I found aphids, ladybugs, and wasps on the leaves. I sprayed soapy water on some plants. Let's see what happens.

It was too cold, but I wished we could go for a NATURE WALK!

🎨 Name & Logo for our garden

The other day, Ms. Mitchel asked me if there was a name for our garden, and I thought, "Oh, we need a name!". I also thought creating a logo would be fun.

I want your ideas for the name and logo for our garden. I am thinking of using them for official use. For example, I named this newsletter "Kids Garden+", but I need a better one. I will put our garden name in the title of the newsletter. We will choose one name and one logo at the end of this project.

If you have ideas,

Option1:

  • Write a garden name or draw a logo on IPad
  • Go to Lee Elementary: All Learners Course on Schoology, and click the Lee Garden folder
  • Click garden NAME or garden LOGO
  • Click Add Media on the top right and submit your work

Option2:

  • Write a garden name or draw a logo on paper with your first name, House, and grade.
  • Please put it in the green box on the growing table near the cafeteria and the Red House.

The due date is 3/31.

Here are some logo examples our learners created in Garden Time.

Thank you for your participation!
