First two weeks of school
π Our First Two Weeks!
What a wonderful start to the school year! We have officially wrapped up our first two weeks, and it has been exciting to see our students settling into routines, building friendships, and getting back into the rhythm of learning.
π Learning & Growing: Students have begun their NWEA and Acadience assessments, which will help our teachers better understand each studentβs strengths and areas for growth.
πΈ Picture Day: We had a great Picture Day! We loved seeing everyone dressed up and ready to smile.
πͺοΈ Safety First: We completed our first tornado drill, and our students and staff did an amazing job! Everyone followed directions, moved safely, and demonstrated what it means to Be Safe.
π New Playground Fun: Our students have been LOVING the new playground! We are so thankful for the support of our community and the bond that made this exciting addition possible. There have been plenty of smiles, laughter, and new adventures on the playground!
It has been a fantastic first two weeks, and we can't wait to see all that our students will accomplish this year. We are off to a great start at Hillcrest! β€οΈ
π A Little Goldfish Fun!
Last week, Mrs. Elsea surprised her entire class with a special little giftβa goldfish of their very own! Donβt worry, these werenβt real goldfish, but they certainly brought some big smiles! π π
Each student got their very own goldfish, and even Principal Huntoon received one! It was such a fun and thoughtful way to make our first weeks of school extra special. We love seeing the creative ways our teachers build relationships and make students feel welcomed and celebrated at Hillcrest!

π Supporting Positive Behavior at Hillcrest
We believe that positive behavior is taught, practiced, and celebrated! As we begin the school year, our staff are working together to create a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for every student.
Our behavior support process focuses on building relationships, teaching clear expectations, recognizing positive choices, and helping students problem-solve when challenges arise. We use our ROARS expectations to help students understand what it means to respect others, act responsibly, and be safe throughout the school day.
When students need additional support, we work with them and their families to understand what is happening and determine the best strategies to help them be successful. We also use behavior data to help us identify students who may benefit from additional support and interventions.
Most importantly, we want every student to know that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow. Our goal is to partner with families, support our students, and create a school where everyone feels safe, respected, and ready to learn!
