Dear Falcon Families,
We had a wonderful week celebrating Red Ribbon Week and wrapping things up with our Storybook Character Parade! Our pumpkin patch was one of the best yet, and we loved seeing our families join in these special traditions. Thank you for taking the time to make these memories with us!
A huge thank-you to our amazing PTA and families for making this week extra special for our staff! Our PTA treated everyone to a delicious Apple Nacho Bar, and when we needed help preparing for our Veterans Day assembly, our parents jumped in so quickly. We are incredibly grateful for the support, generosity, and partnership of our Falcon Family!
Long Weekend Ahead!
A reminder that there is no school for students Friday, October 30, through Tuesday, November 3. Students will return to their regular schedule on Wednesday, November 4. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!
Don't forget that Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 1. Remember to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night and enjoy that extra hour of sleep!

Every student in the mandated grades will be screened unless requested not by the parent. If you do not want your students screened, please notify the school nurse by email at Kelly.Mcnamee@Hayscisd.net
· Please keep your student’s home if they are sick. Please do not send your student to school after giving students fever-reducing, anti-nausea, or anti-diarrheal medication.
· All Students are encouraged to keep a full change of clothing in their backpacks daily in the event of bathroom accidents, spills, ect. The nurse’s office does have spare clothing, but our supply is limited. Clothing donations are always welcome, especially shorts/pants with elastic waist bands.
Information regarding Medications at School:
Students at the elementary level must keep medication in the nurse’s clinic unless otherwise approved by a physician. We must have the appropriate authorizations on file for your student to be able to receive medications while at school. Medication Authorizations and Action Plans can be found here:
https://www.hayscisd.net/page/medications-at-school
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NURSE MUST HAVE THE PRESCRIPTION LABEL. The prescription label must also match the healthcare provider order. Most often it is easiest to bring the prescription box to school with the medication. If you do not have a prescription label, take the medication to your pharmacy as they can usually reprint a label for school. In addition, many parents administer medications at home as well as at school. A pharmacy can split medications between bottles with prescription labels on each to allow for a bottle at school.

Library Updates
At Hays CISD, we are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment. We recognize and value the essential role parents and guardians play in guiding their children's education.
We are excited to introduce new parental control features in our online library catalog. These tools will enable you to browse your child’s school library collection, view current checkouts, and restrict access to any materials you believe are not a good fit for your child. Click [here] to access your login credentials and begin exploring this new tool. Click [here] for more instructions on the library portal.
These features will enhance our partnership in supporting your child’s education. By tailoring library access, we aim to create a learning environment that aligns with your family’s preferences. We encourage you to utilize these tools to foster meaningful discussions with your child about their library selections.
If you are looking for activities to engage your student to strengthen their reading skills, please explore the Amplify Home Connect website for activities that are specifically designed to be done at home! Ask your child's teacher for more information!
In accordance with state law, the district prohibits the use of a personal communication device (such as cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches) while on school property during the school day. For more information about permitted use in certain circumstances and disciplinary measures that apply to this prohibition, see the Student Code of Conduct and policy FNCE(LOCAL). The use of cell phones or any device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in locker rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event. If a student uses a personal communications device without authorization during the school day, the student will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Guidance on Purpose of Policy
Multiple studies have documented the harmful effects of cell phone and social media use on student well-being and academic progress. As a result, Texas law (House Bill 1481) requires public schools to prohibit the use of personal communication devices during the school day on school property. This policy is adopted to implement this requirement and improve the quality of the learning environment in our schools. Students shall not: ● Use a personal communication device, including a cell phone, or other electronic device on school property during the school day and shall store the device in accordance with the method of storage established by the district. [see glossary] ● Display, have sound, or use a telecommunications device, including a cell phone, or other electronic device on school property during the school day. [see glossary] ● Hold/have devices in their hands or on their person at any time during the school day; students found physically accessing the device, either in the open or by attempting to access within a backpack, purse, locker (if one is assigned), or in accordance with administrative regulations, are in violation of the policy. [see glossary]
The district may authorize the use of a personal communication device for the following reasons: ● To implement an individualized education program (IEP) or for a plan created under Section 504, Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C Section 794) or a similar program or plan; ● With documented need based on a directive from a qualified physician; or ● To comply with a health or safety requirement imposed by law or as part of the district’s safety protocols.
Disciplinary Measures for Violations
A student who violates this policy is subject to the following disciplinary measures, subject to and in accordance with the district’s Student Code of Conduct, including any progressive sanctions for ongoing violations:
1st Offense: Device confiscated; Parent notification; Written warning issued; Returned to student at end of day
2nd Offense: Device confiscated; Parent notification and/or conference; Parent/Guardian required to pick up device; Detention
3rd Offense: Device confiscated; Parent notification and/or conference; Parent/Guardian required to pick up device; 1 day of ISS
4th Offense: Device confiscated; Parent notification and/or conference; Parent/Guardian required to pick up device; 3 days of ISS
Further violations may result in additional actions as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. If a student uses a personal communications device without authorization during the school day, the student will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Students who fail to surrender devices will elevate consequences immediately. In limited circumstances and in accordance with law, a student’s personal communications device may be searched by authorized personnel.

Hays High Five
Our Teachers and Staff are AMAZING at PES. Do you want a way to show your child's Teachers how much you appreciate them? You can do it through Hays High Five. It is a link to fill out and whatever you put on the High Five goes to the district and then it is sent to the teacher. Most teachers that receive them will hang them up in their room for encouragement and the district will send a small gift. It only takes a few minutes to do and it will make a Teacher or Staff Member's Day! (Click on the Hays High Five Logo to get the Link)
