The Sixth Scoop
Nichols News, 35th Edition
Dear 6th Grade Families,
We are down to just 13 school days left in the year! It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown by, and we’re excited about the events and opportunities that are still ahead.
Welcoming the Incoming 6th Graders
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our incoming 6th grade students for an introduction to Nichols. It was a full house in the auditorium, and it was wonderful to meet so many of our future students. Two of our current students from the Student Voice Committee gave a brief presentation about their work and the impact they are making in our school.
The committee is currently looking for new members. Our 6th grade teachers have nominated several students, and one of our school counselors has already started reaching out to them. We are looking for students who are interested in representing their peers and contributing to a positive school culture. Members will have opportunities to develop leadership skills and work on projects that directly improve the student experience at Nichols.
8th Grade Legacy Project
Our 8th graders are hard at work on their Legacy Project, which is their way of leaving a lasting mark on Nichols. This meaningful project allows them to reflect on their time here and contribute something positive and memorable to the school community.
School Tours for Incoming Students
This upcoming week, we’ll continue to support our new students by hosting school tours. Members of the Student Voice Committee will guide the tours, sharing their experiences and helping the incoming students feel welcomed and informed about life at Nichols.
YEA Festival
We hope you had a chance to attend the YEA Festival this weekend! It was a beautiful event that brought our entire community together to celebrate the amazing talents of our young artists. I had the opportunity to take some snapshots of our students’ artwork, and I was blown away by their creativity and skill. Be sure to check out what our students are doing in Visual Arts and Media Arts—they truly shine. Please see the pictures below.
Taste of the Loft – Monday:
On Monday, our 6th grade students will participate in the Taste of the Loft event, which will take place right in front of Nichols. This is a unique experience they won’t want to miss! Please ensure your child is present and prepared.
Reminders:
To help your child stay organized and ready for the week, please make sure they bring the following every day:
-
A fully charged iPad
-
Their binder
-
Writing utensils
Thank you for your continued support as we wrap up the school year with energy, excitement, and a focus on community.
Wishing you a joyful and meaningful week,
Ms. Brunson
Spring Reading Challenge
The Spring Reading Challenge is off to a great start! Over 100 students read three or more books in April and received a donut in their ELA class on Thursday. In May, students who read 6 books will receive a $5 gift card to a local business and students who read 9 books will get to party in the library with lunch and a movie in addition to the gift card and donut.
Friendly Reminders:
- An adult should be signing off on the books that their students is reading.
- Students need to read one unique title per spring reading category.
