A Note from the Principal
Day 5/180
This was a week of establishing routines and expectations, reviewing safety protocols and procedures, and settling into the new school year. On Tuesday morning, the Hull Fire Department conducted our first fire drill of the year, and the reviews were glowing. Students exited the building quickly, quietly, and orderly, while communication among staff was at a very high level. It was a great first practice of the year and an important reminder that keeping our students safe remains our highest priority.
On Tuesday night, the School Committee approved the first reading of the new Personal Electronic Device Policy, which will go into effect at the Jacobs on Monday. Middle school students were introduced to the upcoming policy during their first JMS Meeting last Friday, and Mrs. Rajan will review it with our elementary students during tomorrow’s JES assembly. Please click here for more information about the new policy. With that said, this change should have very little impact on the typical school day at the Jacobs, as cell phones have never been permitted for student use during school hours.
Speaking of tomorrow’s JES assembly, all students are encouraged to show their Jacobs pride by wearing blue and gold. Mrs. Rajan will also reveal our One Word for the year, which has become one of my favorite opening traditions. That one word will help guide many of our messages, themes, and activities throughout the school year, so we are excited for students to finally hear what it is!
Tonight at 6:30, Mr. St. George will host our Grade 5 Band Night in the cafeteria. Families attending are asked to enter through the Receiving Doors.
Lastly, our Pirate Ship will officially be full of passengers on Monday as we welcome our preschool students for their first day. Even more exciting, our enrollment when those doors open Monday will be higher than it was on the first day of preschool last year. It will be great to have our youngest Pirates in the building and our entire Jacobs crew finally together for the 2026–2027 voyage!

Using Your MySchoolBucks Account
The Commonwealth covers breakfast and lunch for our students, but they can purchase additional snacks, drinks, or even a second meal through their MySchoolBucks.com account. Cash is not accepted for these items at lunchtime. If you haven't set up your student's account yet, you will need to contact the office for their LASID #. Once their accounts are set up, students can purchase extra food and beverage items during lunch.
Funds can be added to your account online, or in person by the following procedure:
- JES – Cash or Check in an envelope or baggie with student’s name and homeroom. Money will be added and will be available the next school day.
- JMS – Cash or Check can be brought to lunch and added to account for immediate use.
- No change will be given. All funds are added to the account and stay there until used.
Please read this Welcome Letter for information about our Lunch Program.

A Free Family Webinar
Many parents find themselves asking: is my child doing okay, and how would I know if they weren't? This webinar gives parents and caregivers a clearer picture of what typical mental health development looks like, how to recognize common challenges, and how to know when a child may need additional support. Mallory G. will also share her own story of navigating emotional distress as a young person — and finding the support and coping skills that helped her thrive.

The Superintendent's Weekly Message
The Hull Public Schools appreciates our strong partnership with Hull Fire and Hull Police. We have a standing Emergency Management Committee that meets on the first Thursday of every month to review our protocols and procedures. Preparing for various incidents helps our staff to be ready in the unlikely event of an emergency incident in our schools. Please be assured that we take emergency training very seriously and our staff will always act to protect the children entrusted to our care during the school day.
To help prepare parents and caregivers to safely reunite with their child(ren) in the unlikely event of an off-site evacuation, every Hull Public School student will be given a brochure to bring home tomorrow afternoon. This printed “Emergency Guide” is intended to be kept in the glovebox of a vehicle. Experience shows that in a critical incident, relying on cellular service for communication can be a challenge. This brochure can help parents know how we have prepared for emergency situations and guides parents with important information.
Please contact either your school principal or the district office with any questions or concerns about emergency planning. Most importantly, if you see something, say something!
For more frequent updates throughout the week, please “Follow and Like” the Hull Public Schools Facebook and Instagram accounts.

LM Jacobs Student-Parent Handbook
Please Review the Handbook, Then Complete & Submit the Signature Pages
Each year, Jacobs families are required to review the Lillian M. Jacobs Student-Parent Handbook, and then complete and return the Student Handbook Signature Page and the Chromebook Signature Page. School policies and expectations are carefully laid out in the handbook, and it is an excellent source for any questions you may have about Hull Public Schools, and the Jacobs School in particular.
The Handbook and Signature Pages can be found by clicking on the links below.
Chromebook and Handbook Signature Pages (both in one document)
Students will bring home hard copies of the signature pages to be completed and returned to school. The links are provided in case you need to print up another copy.
