Wolfpack Weekly Grades 9 - 12

Week of October 19th

Wolfpack WeeklyGrades 9 - 12Week of October 19th

What a great week of school spirit at AGCS! Throughout the week, students showed their school pride by dressing up for our different Spirit Week themes. The excitement continued on Friday with our annual Color Wars, which was especially memorable this year as we brought together students from kindergarten through 12th grade! It was great to see all of our grade levels participating, including some new additions to the competition, like our grade-level dance-off in the new Upper School Gym!

We wrapped up the week last night with our Homecoming Dance. Our students looked fantastic, and it was incredible to see our new school transformed into such an amazing setting for the evening. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make these events possible!

Looking ahead, this Friday will be our first SEL Day of the year, featuring our College & Career Fair and Adulting Day, where students will have opportunities to explore future pathways and learn practical skills they will use beyond high school.

Finally, with the first marking period quickly coming to an end, please continue to encourage your students to stay on top of their assignments, communicate with their teachers, and finish the quarter strong!

Thank you for your continued support!

Mr. Messick and Mr. Miller

Tardy Information Tardy Information

AGCS 7-12 Families,

We want to take a moment to share important information about your child’s school attendance for students in grades 7-12. Please take a moment to review our procedures regarding tardies:

  • Per the student handbook, students are considered tardy at 7:35. We allow a 3-minute grace period, extending this time to 7:38.

  • Students arriving to their first block class after 7:38, regardless of when they arrived on campus, will be considered tardy to school.

  • Tardies will be considered to be unexcused unless a doctor's note is provided. Any student that has over 10 cumulative medical absences will require an administrative meeting for further medical absences to be considered excused.

  • We will attempt to notify you if your child hits 3 tardies. On the 4th tardy, families will be notified via talking points if their child has reached 4 tardies and are required to serve a lunch detention.

  • Students will receive an after-school detention for each tardy for their 5th through 10th tardies.

  • Students will receive a Saturday detention for their 11th tardy.

  • A Parent/Guardian meeting will be scheduled after a student's 11th tardy.

  • All detentions will be held Monday-Thursday from 2:20-3:10.

By implementing this plan, we hope to reduce late arrivals, which significantly impact school resources and student learning.

Thank you for taking the time to review this with your child,

Families,

We wanted to share a quick reminder regarding squishy and sensory toys. Moving forward, items such as NeeDohs, squishies, squeezy dumplings, and similar gel or liquid filled toys should not be brought to school.

We have recently had several of these items rupture or break during the school day. Unfortunately, the material inside can be extremely difficult to clean and has caused damage to school furniture, computers and other surfaces.

There are also increasing safety concerns surrounding some types of squishy toys. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recently recalled several squishy products containing water beads and has issued a broader warning regarding counterfeit or noncompliant squishy toys. Depending on the product, concerns can include unknown filling materials, choking or ingestion hazards, chemical exposure, and burns if the toys become heated.

We recognize that some students enjoy these items as fidgets or sensory tools. Students who have a documented need for a sensory item should work with their case manager, counselor, or appropriate school staff so that a safe alternative can be identified.

Please help us by having students keep squishies, NeeDohs, dumplings, and similar items at home.

Thank you for your help and support.
