On March 12th, the day before Spring Break, CES Library Specialist Mrs. Colbert celebrated an exciting milestone with students—100,000 minutes of reading. Students who contributed at least 200 minutes were invited to a special celebration, with more than 80 students in attendance. This achievement highlights the dedication of CES students and the strong support from families and staff.

Mrs. Colbert extends sincere thanks to the parents, staff, administration, and high school volunteers who helped make the event a success. Special appreciation is also given to Community National Bank and Solutions North Bank for their generous support.

This fun game night fostered community bonding and strengthened relationships between students, families, and staff. Students also practiced important social skills like teamwork, taking turns, and sharing, helping boost academic motivation and encourage critical thinking in a relaxed environment.

CES is proud of this accomplishment and looks forward to reaching even more reading milestones in the future.

Future Kindergartners Meet Their Teachers

ELC had some special visitors as our Kindergarten teachers stopped by to observe and interact with our kinder-bound students. They spent time playing, engaging, and getting to know the students who will soon be joining their classrooms.

It was a wonderful morning filled with excitement and connection, helping ease the transition to kindergarten and build early relationships. Experiences like this make a big difference in preparing our students for a confident and successful start to their school journey.

Egg Hunt Brings Learning to Life in Kindergarten

Miss Chittum’s Kindergarten class recently enjoyed a fun and engaging day filled with learning and excitement. Students took part in a creative activity where they searched for sight words, numbers, and letter sounds hidden inside Easter eggs, making learning both interactive and memorable.

The class also had the opportunity to share their knowledge with special guests. Grandmas and Grandpas were invited to join, and students proudly demonstrated their sight word skills and performed a special song just for them.

To make the day even more memorable, a surprise visit from a special bunny brought smiles and added to the excitement.

It was truly a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter, and meaningful moments for everyone involved.

CASH the Kid Saver Teaches Second Graders About Saving Money

Our second grade students had a special visit from CASH the Kid Saver, who shared the importance of saving money. CASH read a book about smart saving habits, provided coloring books, and gave each student a $2 bill to take to the bank. When students open a savings account, the $2 will be matched to help them begin saving for the future.

We would like to thank Solutions North Bank of Coffeyville for providing this fun and valuable learning experience for our students.

FKHS Alumnus Inspires Intro to Health Students with Career and Life Lessons

Dr. Yong Han, an FKHS alumnus, recently visited Mrs. Wintjen’s Intro to Health class to speak with students about careers in pediatric medicine. During his visit, he provided hands-on learning opportunities that gave students a closer look at the medical field.

In addition to sharing his professional experiences, Dr. Yong Han also offered valuable life lessons about being present and treating every patient with respect and compassion. His visit gave students meaningful insight into the healthcare profession and the importance of patient care.

We thank Dr. Yong Han for taking the time to return to FKHS and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The Boys and Girls Club of Coffeyville Summer Program kicks off during the first week of June and runs through the end of July, offering students an engaging mix of learning and fun. Children will participate in KidzLit activities that blend reading and math, along with exciting field trips to destinations like the Gathering Place in Tulsa, Discovery Lab, Incredible Pizza, and weekly swimming outings.

More than just a childcare option, the program provides enriching educational experiences, hands-on learning opportunities, and supports the development of important social and emotional skills. As a family-centered program, staff are dedicated to creating a safe, caring environment where every child is supported and valued.
