Dear Hornet Parents,

We hope you and your family are doing well! As we move into November, we are filled with gratitude for our amazing Hornet community. This season reminds us how thankful we are for your continued support, encouragement, and involvement in our students’ success, whether it’s helping with homework, ensuring good attendance, or cheering them on at school events. Your partnership truly makes a difference every day.

Thanksgiving Break

We wish all our families a restful and joyful Thanksgiving Break! School will be closed from Monday, November 24 through Friday, November 28, and classes will resume on Monday, December 1. May your holiday be filled with warmth, laughter, and time spent with loved ones.

Attendance Matters

Consistent attendance continues to be a key factor in student success. Please help us by ensuring your child is at school each day and arrives on time. Regular attendance supports strong academic growth, friendships, and positive habits.

Quick Reminders

• Tardy Policy: Students should arrive on time each morning.
• School IDs: Must be worn daily for safety.
• Game Attendance: Students in grades K–8 must be accompanied by an adult at all games.
• Personal Devices: Should remain put away during the school day.

Get Involved

Our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is always looking for volunteers to help make upcoming events and programs a success. Your participation helps build a stronger, more connected school community.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Alice Johnson Jr. High family. We are grateful for your continued partnership as we celebrate this season of thankfulness and look ahead to more great moments with our Hornets!

Sincerely,

Jose Lopez

Principal, Alice Johnson Junior High

BACKGROUND: Gov. Greg Abbott signed Texas House Bill 1481 (HB 1481) into law, which requires all Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to implement written policies banning students from using “personal communication devices” - such as cell phones - during the school day.

What students are NOT allowed to use under HB 1481 during class:

We want to ensure that all parents and students are aware of our campus tardy policy.

Slight changes have been made the to the bell schedule.

The goals of this revision are to (1) reduce hallway congestion during transitions and (2) streamline the day by reducing the total number of bells. The updated bell schedule is attached below.

Student Hornet Policies

Attention Parents:

We want to ensure that all students are aware of our campus policies and expectations. We have attached the student hornet policies for you to review with your children.

Please be sure to take a look at the dress code, as we have students that have been out of dress code.

English: Hornet Policies

Spanish: Las Políticas De Los Hornets

We are aware that our hornet students want to show their pride at athletic events and we want them to attend as many as possible!

As per the new Channelview Athletic Regulations, students attending games on campus- both Elementary & Middle School must be accompanied by a supervising adult and remain seated with them at all times.

We understand that this is different from previous year, but it is important that we communicate this with you all.

We hope that with your collaboration we can inform all of our students of this new policy!
