Every Day Matters! Every Day Matters!

Every day your child is at school is an opportunity to learn, grow, build friendships, and stay connected. That is why one of our campus goals this year is to maintain 95% or higher attendance each day for both students and staff.

Last year, our campus attendance rate dropped to 94.2%, our first decline in five years. We are excited to share that we are off to a strong start this year! Our August attendance rate is 95.9%—above our campus goal!

While we are proud of this start, there is still work to do. During the first 13 days of school, our students accumulated 209 absences. Even a few missed days can add up over time, making it more difficult for students to keep up with learning, classroom routines, and important connections with their teachers and classmates.

This year, we are committed to being clear, consistent, and connected.

  • Clear about our goal of 95% or higher attendance.
  • Consistent in encouraging students to be at school, on time, every day they are able.
  • Connected with our families when challenges arise that may affect attendance.

We understand that children get sick and circumstances arise when an absence is necessary. Our goal is not perfect attendance. It is strong, consistent attendance and a partnership with families to help every child be successful.

Thank you for helping us make every day count. When our students are here, they can learn, connect, and thrive!

We’re proud to recognize Cameron B., a 5th grade student here at Lincoln, for a wonderful act of kindness and generosity! Cameron recently donated a Dog Man book to our school library for other students to enjoy.

This thoughtful gift is a great example of how one student can make a positive difference for others. Mrs. Barfield, our librarian, is excited to add Cameron’s donation to our collection of this popular series and give even more students the opportunity to discover a book they love.

Thank you, Cameron, for thinking of others and sharing the joy of reading with your fellow students. Your kindness makes LES an even better place!

Montgomery ISD is exploring the interest level in an At-Home Learning Option to determine whether the District should pursue this opportunity for students and families.

We want your input. The survey will help us understand the level of interest and what would be most important to families, from academics and scheduling to athletics, extracurricular activities, and hands-on learning opportunities.

The survey is open to MISD families and community members, including those who live outside the MISD attendance boundaries.

Behavior Focus Behavior Focus

Our campus is fortunate to be able to utilize Title I funding to add an additional layer of support for students, teachers, and classrooms, through Mrs. Martinez, our campus Behavior Interventionist and Support Teacher. Mrs. Martinez serves as a resource for all of our classrooms, partnering with teachers to strengthen classroom management, build positive learning environments, and identify strategies that help students be successful throughout the school day.

She also works directly with students who may need a little extra support learning to manage big emotions, make positive choices, and regulate their behavior. Just like reading, math, or any other skill, positive behavior can be taught, practiced, and strengthened over time.

The graphic accompanying this article shares an important idea behind this work: behavior is communication. By understanding what students may be communicating through their behavior, we can help teach them more successful ways to express their needs.

We are grateful to have Mrs. Martinez partnering with our teachers, students, and families as we create classrooms where every child can learn, grow, and thrive!
