Sources of Strength

Chaparral is a Sources of Strength school. Sources of Strength is a strength-based, upstream suicide prevention program. At Chap, this is just the beginning - we incorporate the 8 strengths into our culture, constantly reminding kids of their Mentors, Physical and Mental Health, Positive Friends, Family Support, Spirituality, Healthy Activities, and Generosity; all things that we rely on to get us through difficult times. Data show that Sources of Strength is an effective, research-based suicide prevention program, with a recent study indicating Sources of Strength schools reduced student suicide attempts by 29%. At Chap, students can participate in Sources of Strength activities, attend a quarterly rally, be trained as Peer Leaders, or even join the Leadership class. Visitors to our school will see evidence of the program throughout the school through our student-led campaigns, and the light poles in front of the school fly a Sources flag that indicates the strength of the month. Sources of Strength is an important part of the Chaparral Family and another way we Take Care of One Another.

* Our next Sources rally is on October 9 during homeroom, all students are welcome.*
