Welcome Back

We had a great start to the 2018-2019 school year! Bobcat Buyout Started with a Bang--reminder that this is the main PTA fundraiser so that you and your students don't have to do product sales throughout the school year. We have Back to School Night for both Kindergarten and 1st through 6th grades on Tuesday, August 28th. Thank you to all who come as this is an informative and classrooms expectations are shared .

Meet Mrs. Saenz

Welcome to Chapman Hills to all our new families and Welcome Back to those that have been with us! Chapman Hills is a wonderful school with great teachers, students, and parental support! I am honored to again be the Principal here at Chapman Hills for my fourth school year.

A little information about me- I am a transplant from Arizona. I came out to California to attend college at Chapman University where I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Psychology. I then got my teaching credentials and my Master's Degree in Special Education from Chapman as well. I then wanted to further my education and received my administrative credential from California State University Fullerton. My teaching career began right out of college when I was offered a special education pre-school and kindergarten position. I continued my teaching career teaching a variety of grades from Kindergarten to fifth grade as well as RSP. I love to run, read and spend time with my family. I love to try new "healthy" recipes and really expand my kiddos palate by trying new foods. We love to travel back and forth to Arizona to visit family and friends.

I am married with three children Two boys and 1 girl--two of my oldest children attend an Orange Unified elementary school. My family and I are truly invested in continuing to have OUSD a district of excellence. I have a passion for curriculum and instruction as well as character education!

John Wooden's Pyramid of Success

This year we are focusing on character education with the help of the famous John Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Mrs. Saenz read the book Inch and Miles to all classes. While reading the book the focus was about the four character traits we are focusing on:

September-Hardwork

October-Enthusiasm

November-Cooperation

December-Self-Control

January-Alertness

February- Action

March-Fitness

April- Skill

May- Team Spirit

June-Personal Best

While at home please continue to have the conversations about these "Character Traits" with your student(s).

We have partnered with the non-profit group "Harper For Kids" they provided all students at Chapman Hills with a color copy of the Pyramid of Success. They also provided each teacher with a wonderful large-poster size pyramid to be displayed and reviewed within the classroom. They also generously donated the book Inch and Miles so all classrooms can have their own copy.

Drop Off Procedures

Our drop off procedures has been going well this year! We want to continue to decrease the number of students who are tardy this year. Also, teachers are reporting that they are able to move more quickly into the classroom in the AM to start the learning! A reminder that instruction is to BEGIN at 8:10 am daily. Please ensure that your child is dropped off anytime between 7:55-8:05.

As a reminder, if you'd like to accompany your child in the morning you will need to go to the office and obtain a visitors badge Starting Monday, August 27th. Chapman Hills teachers and staff want to ensure that we keep all students safe by ensuring we know who is on campus in the mornings.

Pick-up is moving very well! Thank you, families, for waiting at the gate for your child to be dismissed and allowing space for them to walk out. The students have all been moving to the "waiting" area to help ease the pick-up procedures. Please make sure that you move all the way up in the pick up line to help ease the stopping for traffic.

National Walk to School Day is Coming Up

Mark Your Calendars!

Students, Parents, and Families please come and join us for our 2nd annual National Walk to School Day. We will be meeting at Santiago Hills Park (the park right behind the school) on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:30 am. The students who participated last year had a lot of fun walking with staff members and other community members including our local OPD. We met at the basketball court then headed West on White Oak Ridge to Newport and back around to Canyon View. This way students had the opportunity to talk about the importance of safety while crossing the street.

More information about this fun event will follow!
