Schaab Scholars

"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more luck I have." - Thomas Jefferson
We have certainly been super busy in Room 320. We welcomed a new face, Joshua, to our classroom last week. We've had a fun time sharing the expectations of our classroom as well as sharing with Joshua the importance of kindness, collaboration, and respect at Field. It was a great refresher in Field CARES for everyone!
We have quite a bit of exciting stuff happening, as you may have noted in my last email.
- PARCC testing starts tomorrow, Monday. Please make sure your Scholar gets a good night's sleep, has a charged Chromebook, and has a snack for testing. Also, be sure HEADPHONES are in your Scholar's backpack. I reached out to the families I knew that their children did not have headphones at school as of Friday.
- We are finishing up our state reports, which we are excited to display. During PARCC testing we'll be focusing quite a bit on Social Studies as we work in groups to dig deeper into learning about the region where our state is. Teams of Scholars will work together to teach the class about their region and how it stands out from the others.
- In our classroom, we are getting excited for open house. We hope you will join us on Monday, March 19th from 6:00-7:30 to see the amazing state floats!
- Many students have been asking about examples from past years state floats. These are now posted on my blog. Check them out!
- Our classroom submitted our picks for the Park Ridge Public Library's, Book Madness. Be sure to remind your Scholar to vote each week! We'll be doing so in class, however, they can vote as much as they want. :)
- Lastly, I'm embedding a video below that explains a bit more about our "kindness boomerang" initiative that we've started in our classroom. We are voting weekly for kids in our class to the person who is "throwing" out the most kind actions.
Thanks for reading! I'm hoping to get back to updating this back on a weekly basis. If there is something you'd like to see more of, please let me know!!!

About Me
Last weekend, we went with some neighbors to Bernie's Book Bank. This was a great volunteer experience for all ages! I know Field has participated in book drives, however, we got to help sort and sticker books. It was a wonderful way to start a Saturday morning.
