Valentine Parties - February 14, 2023

Valentine parties will be on the afternoon of February 14th in classrooms. In order to provide an intimate setting for students to exchange Valentines, parties will be for teachers and students only. We encourage parents to join us at the "End of the Year" parties in May.

Please see the following details:

  • Students are encouraged to bring Valentines in sets of 24 for classmates. It is most helpful to teachers for distribution if the Valentine says "To: Friend, From: Adam". Teachers will not be sharing a list of student names.

  • Students may have an individually packaged treat or snack attached to each Valentine. For example, a sucker or fruit snack pack is welcome. Students are not able to bring other treats such as cupcakes, cookies, donuts, etc. for the class. PTA will be providing the treat for students to enjoy during the party.

  • Our wonderful PTA will be providing white paper bags with handles for all students to decorate and use to collect Valentines. Teachers will be providing time for students to decorate and prepare their bags in class.

Thank you to the Rogers' PTA!

We are so appreciative of the Rogers' PTA for purchasing new supplies and games for each House/hall to have engaging activities on their Indoor Recess Cart.

The carts were previously full of well-loved games and worn out materials.

We are thankful to parents and community members for joining the Rogers PTA and supporting the fall fundraiser that allows PTA to support our school in so many ways!

You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. FEBRUARY’S CHARACTER TRAIT - SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

In the month of February, the students will be talking about how to solve conflicts and why it’s important to demonstrate respect for the feelings of others. In Guidance this month, we will talk about the concept of empathy and the students will realize how their words and actions affect others.

Why does Social Intelligence matter?

Social intelligence is as important as IQ when it comes to happiness, health, and success. Empathetic people are less likely to experience anxiety, depression, and addictions later in life. They are also more likely to be hired, promoted, earn more money, and have happier marriages and better-adjusted children.

Pulse Check: Think about yourself. How many of these things are true?

-I have a lot of relationships that are mutually beneficial, enjoyable, and supportive.

-Most of the time, I can tell how other people feel and have a good idea about how to respond appropriately.

-My relationships make me feel good about myself.

-The people in my life help me be my best.

How do I encourage Social Intelligence in others?

Model it. Wait your turn before speaking, and when you speak, acknowledge others’ points of view: “I see why you look at things this way, and it makes sense why you do. But I have a different perspective.” Treat others’ feelings with curiosity and validation, not frustration or judgment.

Celebrate it. Notice when someone made others feel included and valued: “It was nice of you to make sure the younger kids had playing time in the game, so they all felt like they had a role.” Encourage teamwork and loyalty over hierarchy and competition. Reframe conflict as an opportunity to better understand how deeply reasonable people may feel about opposing views: “Our neighbors voted for another candidate, but we all care about the good of the country; we just have different ideas of how to achieve it.”

Enable it. Create opportunities to help everyone feel equal, for example by giving

even young family members responsibilities or a say in decision-making. Environments in which everyone feels needed and consistently acknowledged help reduce victimization and increase achievement and productivity.

Upcoming Valentine Celebrations

If your family is in need of help securing Valentines for your student to share with friends and classmates, please email bocians@friscoisd.org OR let your child’s teacher know.

Additionally, if your child does not need all of the Valentines that come in the package, and you would like to donate the extras to the school, please send the extras to your child’s teacher by February 9th. We can get them in the hands of students in need. Our generous, amazing PTA has already donated packages of Valentines, but we would love to have extras just in case!
