Principal's Message- 10/19/26 Principal's Message- 10/19/26

3rd Grade Fall OST

Dear Parents and Guardians of 3rd Grade Students,

In two weeks, all Brunswick City School District 3rd grade students will be taking the English Language Arts Ohio State Test. The assessment is given over two days; Part 1 will be administered on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 and Part 2 will be given on Thursday, October 29, 2026. During the spring, 3rd grade students will once again take the English Language Arts Ohio State Test, as well as the 3rd grade Mathematics assessment.

The purpose of the fall test is to help us better understand students’ strengths and areas of growth in the skills outlined in Ohio’s English Language Arts Learning Standards. Your child’s teacher will use the data from the assessment to help guide instruction to meet the individual instructional needs of all of our students.

There are a variety of things you can do to help prepare your student to do their best on this assessment:

  1. Avoid doctor’s appointments and other planned absences on October 28th and 29th.

  2. Encourage your child to get a good night of sleep.

  3. Provide a healthy breakfast.

  4. Ensure your child arrives at school on time.

Additionally, you can access practice resources for your child by visiting the following website: https://oh-ost.portal.cambiumast.com/families.html

Ultimately, one of the best things parents, guardians, teachers and principals can do for our students is to encourage them to do their best!

Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or principal with any questions. Additionally, I invite you to reach out to me at any time.

Sincerely,

Patrick Geschke

Picture Retakes

PICTURE RETAKE DAY IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21ST.

  • If your student was absent on the first picture day, no worries! He/she can get their picture taken on retake picture day.
  • If your student was absent on the first picture day, there will be an ordering site available so you can order online at cavanaughphoto.com/order. If you placed an order before the first picture day and didn’t realize your child would be absent, your order will still be honored.
  • If your student had pictures on the original picture day and they would like a retake, please return the original picture packet that was ordered. If you only ordered a hi-res digital file, simply send a note in with your student stating that a hi-res digital file was purchased. If the packet or note is not returned, a new package can not be printed until the original is turned in.
  • If you did not place an order and would still like a retake, please just let your child's teacher know to send them down for the retake.

If you have any questions, we're happy to help! 440-973-4390 or info@cavanaughphoto.com

Second Step SEL Spotlight

During the month of October, our Second Step Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons will focus on Bullying Prevention. This week Second and Third grade completed their lesson on Bullying. They learned the following:

  • Recognize – Know what bullying looks and sounds like.
  • Report – Tell a trusted adult when bullying happens.
  • Refuse – Use a strong, respectful voice to say, “Stop.”

Together, we are helping our students build the skills they need to feel safe, confident, respectful, and ready to learn!

Fourth and Fifth graders have completed their Bullying Prevention Lesson.
