As we welcome the month of March, we are so grateful for the joy and energy that filled our school during I Love to Read Month! It was a wonderful celebration of literacy for all of February.

We were thrilled to welcome several special guest readers who shared their time and stories with our students, including Corny Rempel, Denee Dawson, Brandon Kipe, and HSD Superintendent Joe Thiessen. Our students also enjoyed the visit from the players of the Steinbach Pistons! Our month began and ended with special I Love to Read assemblies where staff members competed in "Bobsled Races". These races were definitely a highlight of the month! Throughout the month, students were excited to bring in their reading tickets for time spent reading at home. It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm for books and to celebrate the strong partnership between school and home in supporting literacy growth.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating our rescheduled Winter Fun Day. We are hopeful for cooperative weather this week and are looking forward to a day filled with fun!

At the end of March report cards will be coming out and will be available on Parent Portal on March 20th. Parent teacher meetings will be on March 24th by request. If you would like to connect with your child's teacher please reach out to arrange a meeting.

Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming school year is open! We are currently planning our Spring Kindergarten Orientation event and are excited to welcome our newest learners to our school community. To ensure your child can be included in this special event, we kindly ask that you complete their registration as soon as possible. Early registration helps us plan appropriately for staffing, classroom organization, and a smooth transition to school. We can’t wait to meet our future Kindergarten students and begin this exciting journey together!

Please make sure you have extra clothing for your child at school. Mittens, socks, and pants often get wet in spring.

Winter Fun Day has been Rescheduled to Wednesday, March 4th. There will be an afternoon of outdoor activities for the students to enjoy! Please remember to dress your kids for the weather as they'll be outside all afternoon.

Our chocolate fundraiser will start shortly. We are again selling World’s Finest Chocolates and there will only be chocolate covered almonds for your child to sell. All cases are peanut-free.

Each case will have 30 boxes which sell for $3 a box for a total of $90 for a case. One case will be sent home with the oldest in each family on March 16th, however if you would like to have more than 1 case or wish to not participate, an email was sent out earlier with a link to decline selling chocolates. Please fill it in as needed and submit by March 9th. We also welcome monetary donations.

For every case you sell, you will win a prize at our “BEAN BAG TOSS”, plus your name is entered to win in our random draws. Now, if that’s not enough, you also have the chance to win one of the grand prizes of first, second, or third for the most cases sold and the class that sells the most cases.

On Wednesday March 11th at 10:30AM Grade 3 and 4 Choir students will be performing at the Southeastern Manitoba Festival, located at Blumenort Community Church, 59 Center Ave., Blumenort. Students are asked to wear black, dark blue, or dark purple. Families are welcome to attend for $3 admission.

Save the date! The Grade 1 and 2 Spring Concert is coming up on Wednesday April 29th. More details to come in the April newsletter.

We still have quite a few students that have not paid their activity fees. Please pay online on Parent Portal or bring exact cash or a cheque payable to MES to the school office.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open! To be eligible, children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2026. The registration process will take place online at www.hsd.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit the school office and we can assist you in completing the registration on a school computer.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible. Early registration will assist us in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Registering before March 27, 2026, will ensure there is sufficient time for school appointments and provide parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in Kindergarten orientation activities. An announcement is made on radio stations 95.1 FM, 96.7 FM, and AM 1250 between 7-8 am, as well as on www.steinbachonline.com and as a bulletin on www.hsd.ca
