Eaton FamilyNewsletterJanuary 12th, 2024

Dear Eaton Families,

Happy New Year! We were so excited to see our Olympians back in school this week. Our students were very excited to see our PTA Sprit Rock painted. Thank you to our PTA for sprucing up our beds with new mulch. We are grateful for the time and attention our PTA has dedicated towards the beautification of our grounds. We appreciate our amazing PTA!

Eaton Schoolwide Book Club

Eaton Schoolwide Book Club is returning in February! For our 2024 selection, we will be reading How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor. This book is available in many places in paperback, eBook, and audiobook formats if you would like your family to participate at home. More details will be coming soon about daily readings and questions as well as a culminating project.

From the author's website:

Georgina Hayes is desperate. Ever since her father left and they were evicted from their apartment, her family has been living in their car. With her mama juggling two jobs and trying to make enough money to find a place to live, Georgina is stuck looking after her younger brother, Toby. And she has her heart set on improving their situation.

When Georgina spots a missing-dog poster with a reward of five hundred dollars, the solution to all her problems suddenly seems within reach. All she has to do is “borrow” the right dog and its owners are sure to offer a reward. What happens next is the last thing she expected.

With unmistakable sympathy, Barbara O’Connor tells the story of a young girl struggling to see what’s right when everything else seems wrong.

Intent Forms

Student intent forms were sent home on January 8th. Please complete them and return by January 19th.

Parent Portal Accounts

Our Data Manager has been instructed to cleanup data in our Student Information System, specifically student contacts by removing and/or consolidating duplicate contacts that appear in the system across the district. This may have an effect on parents being able to access their parent portal, especially if you have multiple students linked to different portal accounts. If you find that you are unable to access your student's account please contact Lyndsie Hutson for assistance. Thank you!

NHCS Standard Response Protocol

Please see district safety information regarding the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) currently used throughout the district. You may access the SRP Parent Handout below, as well as learn more through iloveyouguys.org

SRP ♥ The "I Love U Guys" Foundation

SRP ♥ The "I Love U Guys" Foundation

Easy to understand. Easy to implement. A uniform, planned, and practiced response to any incident is the foundation of a safe school. Safe business. Safe community. The SRP is action-based, flexible, and easy to learn. It rationally organizes tactics for response to weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to personal safety.

Volunteer Information

All volunteers, both Levels 1 and 2, must complete volunteer training each school year.

All field trip chaperones must become a Level II volunteer, which requires a background check through NHCS. Background checks are good for three years. Level 2 volunteers must also complete the orientation and assessment each year.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Parents, family, or community members volunteering to assist students in a supervised setting are not required to undergo a background check if they are continually supervised by school personnel during the school day.

Level II

Parents, family, or community members volunteering to assist students in an unsupervised setting away from school personnel are deemed Level II Volunteers. We also ask that all chaperones become Level II volunteers, as well as those interested in assisting in our media center and cafeteria at Eaton Elementary. An applicant designated a Level II Volunteer must complete the online application and the criminal background check. Applications must be completed at least two weeks prior to the time you wish to begin volunteering. The cost of background checks are $22.50.
