Virtue of January: Self-Control/ Decision-Making
Like a city breached, without walls, is one who lacks self-control.(Prov.25:28)
God wants us to do what we know and feel is right.
Self-Control/Decision-Making is regulating your thoughts and actions so that you stop any pressures from within or without and act the way you know and feel is right. Developing loving habits helps us to respond lovingly to others in our choices and actions.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a person with self-control...
Has a positive, confident sense of self and others
Adapts to situations in light of the common good
Thinks reflectively to solve problems
Applies effective communication, decision-making, problem-solving & resource management skills
Reflects on personal values, abilities and aspirations
Participates in leisure and fitness activities for a balanced and healthy lifestyle
PA DAY
Monday, January 19 is a Professional Activity Day for staff. There will be no school for students. Staff will be involved in assessment and evaluation of pupil progress.
We Share the Air
We would like to inform you that our school continues to participate in “We Share the Air”, a scent sensitivity awareness campaign. There are students attending this school who suffer from potentially life-threatening asthmatic conditions triggered by air pollutants. Exposure even to minimal odours may cause potentially life-threatening reactions. Very common severe chemical triggers are perfume, cologne, scented products and personal care products (such as hairspray and body spray). These products may cause severe reactions for students. The safety and well-being of all our students is a priority. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, please refrain from wearing scented personal products complying with our Scent Free Zone campaign at school and all school events. Please ensure that all caregivers are also aware of this campaign. If you have any questions, please talk to your child’s teacher or the school staff. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting a safe learning environment for all students.
Kiss & Ride, School and Visitor Parking
Thank you very much to the many parents who safely use the parking lot and the Kiss’n’Ride drop-off and pick-up area! The patience and courtesy demonstrated by our community goes a long way in maintaining a safe environment for all!
- Please do not let your child out of the driver's side door. Students need to exit from the passenger side.
- If your child needs assistance with exiting the vehicle, please park in the parking lot to assist your child.
Dress for the Weather
Please be mindful of the weather conditions and dress children appropriately. As the weather starts to change, students are encouraged to wear layers for the cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. Students will be asked to have indoor shoes at school, especially once the weather changes as wet and soiled boots and shoes will remain in the hallways to keep the classrooms clean!
Fostering Emotional Understanding – Bell Let’s Talk Day
January 21st is Bell Let’s Talk Day, a national initiative to break down stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health. This is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of emotional understanding, a key protective factor that helps students build resilience and positive relationships. The theme for this year is "Taking a moment for metal health".
Spot the New Nutrition Symbol on Packaged Foods!
Did You Know? Regularly eating foods high in saturated fat, sugars or sodium can increase risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.
You may have started noticing a magnifying glass symbol on some packaged foods. This new front-of-packaged symbol, introduced by Health Canada, helps you quickly identify foods and drinks that are high in saturated fat, sugars, and sodium.
How does it help?
- Allows you to quickly identify packaged foods that are high in saturated fat, sugars, or sodium.
- Makes it easier to compare similar products, like canned soups or cereals, to make informed choices.
- Supports Canada’s Food Guide recommendations to use food labels to promote healthy eating.
Not all foods will display a symbol, such as:
- Foods that are not high in saturated fat, sugars, or sodium.
- Fresh vegetables and fruits.
- Whole cuts of raw meat with no added ingredients.
- Foods where symbol would be redundant (e.g., packages of sugar or salt).

Bus Cancellations Memo
During the winter months, inclement weather and/or poor road conditions may cause the disruption of bus transportation. If buses are cancelled in a certain Weather Zone, schools in that Zone will remain open to students and staff. St. Christopher School is in Zone 1. Please take a minute to review the School Board Policy regarding weather related bus cancellations.
Where to find out if buses are cancelled or there is full system closure:
Bus cancellation notices are usually posted by 6:00 am or shortly afterwards, in the following ways:
By directing your tax support to the Separate (Catholic) School System:
- You may vote for Catholic School Trustees in Municipal elections
- Your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
- You show your support for the Catholic school system
To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:
- Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
- Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year (2022)
Have you moved?
Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you relocate. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register yourself as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.
To register as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter or change your Direction of School Support, please contact the DPCDSB Admissions Department by phone at 905-890-0708 ext. 24512 or by email at admissions@dpcdsb.org.
