Dear Hiawatha Community,

It's been an exciting week here at Hiawatha! Yesterday we had a special visit for our whole school celebration from the Incredibles Family, a minion and Gru and Paw Patrol! Students had fun giving high fives, dancing and being together in the sunshine.

Today we have our author visit with David Covell, author of Run Wild and Gather Round, Students got to learn about how authors get their ideas and inspiration. Second and third graders created some of their own inspirations. During our Green Mountain Sing, we got to sing a song inspired by his book, Gather Round. Check it out Here: Circle Song. Ask your child what they like best about the visit.

I will be working at school over break. If you would like any free books, please stop by and take as many as you would like. I hope everyone has a safe and healthy break.

Take great care,

Katherine

Update from Ms. Gengras in Art Update from Ms. Gengras in Art

The Youth Art Month Exhibit at the state capitol and EWSD's annual Fine Arts night were great successes! We appreciate your support for these events, and congratulations to the students who displayed their work.

Another opportunity to celebrate the arts is on Saturday, April 26th, for Church Street's Earth Day celebration. Sixteen bird feeders made by Hiawatha first-graders will be displayed at Frog Hollow on Church Street in Burlington. Fun Earth Day-themed activities and events will be held throughout the day. The art will be on display for two weeks after the event. I hope to see you there!

Hiawatha artists have been hard at work glazing and finishing up their clay projects. Students can either take their work home or choose to display it. Students will next explore weaving and fiber arts!

Square1Art order packets have been sent home. Students worked hard on these masterpieces. Each artist's original work is currently on display in the hallways of Hiawatha.

It's been an exciting month! Thank you for celebrating creativity and supporting the arts. As always, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns anytime.

Staff Appreciation Week is right around the corner, May 5th-May10th and we need your help! There are a number of easy ways that you can contribute to our weeklong celebration of these hardworking and dedicated teachers and staff. Click on the Sign Up Genius link: here to let us know how you can help! We will need donations of items like breakfast foods, bouquets, snacks and seltzer, people to help pick up and or serve a few meals, some volunteers to clean up the staff lounge on Sunday May 4th, and lots of kids and parents alike to come decorate the sidewalks with sidewalk chalk on Wednesday May 7th.
