Summer Edition: August 13, 2025
Dear Running Brook Families,
We hope you are enjoying these final weeks of summer! We are eagerly anticipating the return of our students and are committed to ensuring that each one feels valued within our school community. Our goal is to foster a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where learning thrives.
Every member of our staff plays a crucial role in this endeavor. Teachers, who hold a position of utmost trust in our society, are joined by our dedicated support team including custodians, food service workers, support staff, secretaries, and bus drivers, all of whom contribute significantly to our school's success.
We are enthusiastic about cultivating strong relationships with all our families this year, as we believe that a cohesive school community is built upon collaboration and mutual support.

RBES: A New Community School!
Running Brook is already amazing in so many ways but this year we will be working to further enhance the ways we support our students, staff and families. As a school we will be working together to introduce some new supports and programs and looking for volunteers and parents and community members to assist in this effort. If you did not already have it on your schedule please look for the sign-up information that will be shared next week so you can attend one of two open house events that we will be having this year. The first is on August 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM and the second will take place on August 22, in the morning from 9-11 and from 12-3 in the afternoon. The flyer for the event is above!
One of the biggest new strategies we will be implementing are home visits. We will be piloting home visits in the near future and more information will follow in the next few weeks. Students will be randomly selected in some grade levels for a home visit. The homeroom teacher will call and share that a family has been selected. Families who are selected will have the option to opt in or out of this opportunity. I will have a table set up in the cafeteria and look forward to meeting many of you and answering any questions you may have about the Community School strategy.
Shayla Bright
RBES Community School Site Coordinator
Talking Points
Beginning this year, we will be using TalkingPoints to connect families with schools in your home language. You will be receiving messages in the upcoming days from the teachers. Please save the numbers in your contact list so that you can reach back out if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to connecting with you soon!
Family File
Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information and students can not attend field trips if their Family File has not been updated.
Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect and selecting the Family File tab on the left and then clicking on Family File. Please complete this as soon as possible! It’s imperative that this information is up-to-date.
Once logged in, you will be asked to update or provide the following information:
Student Information
Parent/Guardian Contact
Emergency Contacts
Medical Information
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Photo Approval
Data Confidentiality
PTA Directory
Student Placements and Notification
Student Placement
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2025-2026 school year. Careful consideration was given to each student’s placement based on the previous teacher’s recommendation, assessment scores, and reading/math levels. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. Our entire staff works hard to make school a positive experience for all students.
Class Placement Notification
Back to school is one of the most exciting times of the school year! You can find out who your child’s teacher will be this year by completing your Family File online to input your emergency contact information. Class placement notifications will be released in Family File at 8 am on August 23rd. In addition, all RBES teachers will send a text to their homeroom families on Tuesday, August 19th at 9:30 am through our new communication system, Talking Points.

School Hours and Arrival/Dismissal
School is from 9:10-3:55 pm. Please make sure your child is at school, at 9:10 am so they have time to get themselves settled. Please do not bring your child to school before 9:10 am as there is no supervision available.
Below are the entrances that will be used for arrival and dismissal every day. We will also use these same doors during open house. Staff members will be outside to help direct families.
It's imperative that the transportation survey is compelted as soon as possible so we know how your child will be going home. Please make all efforts to make this the same as what you have in your family file if possible.
Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
- Please follow the directions of staff in the car loop.
- Please refrain from walking through the parking lot during arrival and dismissal. Use the sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Please refrain from parking/backing in the parking lot and walking your student. It has caused major delays when vehicles attempt to get out of the parking lot during arrival and dismissal.
- For the safety of our staff and students, family members are not permitted in the building (classrooms, restrooms, band room, etc.) during arrival and dismissal.
- To ensure efficient arrival and dismissal procedures, please make appointments with your child’s teacher to conference so that our teachers can give our parents the quality time deserved, rather than holding quick conversations during arrival and dismissal in the car loop.
Family Access to Support Resources
Families impacted by recent federal government layoffs may now be eligible to receive benefits through the Free and Reduced Price Meals (FARMs) program. Qualifying families can gain access to a wide range of additional resources and discounts, including testing fees, tuition, internet and more. Visit www.hcpss.org/farms to learn more and consider applying.
Birthday Celebrations
Cupcakes and balloons are not permitted in classrooms for birthday celebrations. Please review the list of approved food items for In-School Celebrations. Please be sure to check with your student's teacher about in school celebrations.
School Wide Title I Program
Running Brook is a Title I School wide Program school. Title I is a federally funded program designed to close achievement gaps and ensure all children have an opportunity to access a high-quality education by providing funding for supplemental academic services and supports. A Family-School Compact & Plan is an agreement between families, students, and teachers that is jointly developed and distributed to all families. It explains how families, students, and teachers will work as a team to make sure all students meet with success and get the support they need to achieve grade level goals.
