Our Learning Community...

It is spring Conference Week! We are looking forward to connecting with you. Parent/Guardian–Teacher conferences are an important opportunity for families and teachers to partner together in support of each child’s growth. These conversations allow us to celebrate progress, discuss goals, and share insights that help us better understand how to support students both at school and at home.

Your time and participation are incredibly valuable. If you find that you must cancel a scheduled conference at the last minute, please be sure to follow up with your child’s teacher to reschedule another day and time. Maintaining this connection helps ensure we are working together to support your child’s success.

Spend a few minutes talking with your child before the conference to get ready. Some students are nervous about their family participating in conferences. You can put your child as ease by helping them understand the goal is to help them be successful.

A couple questions to ask your child before the conference could include:

  • Is there anything specific you would like me to discuss with your teacher?
  • What do you especially like or dislike about your class or school?
  • In what areas are you experiencing the most success?
  • Are you experiencing challenges in any areas?
By sharing perspectives from both home and school, we can build a clearer picture of each child’s learning and continue working together to help them experience success.

Reminder: Summer School Enrollment

Summer school enrollment is happening this week! Enrolling during this window guarantees your spot in the Morning Academic Program. Summer school is an incredible opportunity for all learners, but especially for those who may not yet be at grade level. To enroll...

  • Ensure your student’s PowerSchool account is current with the primary contact’s email and cell phone number in the first field.

  • Click on the student specific enrollment link (emailed and texted to primary users information) during the Enrollment Window:

    • Opens: Monday, March 23, 2026, at 8:00am

    • Closes: Friday, March 27, 2026, at 5:00pm

For more information, see the flyer in the "Additional Resources for Families" section of this newsletter.

5th Grade Activities Fundraiser... 5th Grade Activities Fundraiser...

Conference week and the week before spring break can be a busy time for many of our families, we know there is a lot on your to-do list!

Our 5th graders are hosting a fundraiser at Islands this week and it might be the perfect opportunity to take one thing off your plate. If making dinner feels like one more task, consider enjoying a meal at Islands and supporting our 5th grade students at the same time.

It could also be a fun way to celebrate together as a family. With conferences and report cards happening this week, a special outing can be a great chance to recognize your child’s hard work and enjoy some time together.

Thank you for supporting our 5th graders!

Weather Weather

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!

Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.

Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.

Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:

  • Choose a cozy time and space to read together

  • Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)

  • Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension

  • Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby

The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...

Weather

Do you know any kids who are fascinated by tornadoes and hurricanes and the science of measuring and predicting weather patterns? We've gathered up a great collection of books, activities, apps, and websites for learning all about weather. Try pairing fiction with nonfiction books and exploring different genres (like poetry and biographies) and formats (like graphic novels and audio books). You'll be creating your own "text sets" — collections of texts focused on a specific topic, such as weather. Reading widely in this way helps children build background knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. You might also want to explore our free toolkit: Weather Wonders.
