Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Sunday/Catholic Education Week
History:
Catholic Education Sunday and Catholic Education Week, formerly observed separately, will be celebrated together starting October 2024. Traditionally, the first Sunday in November marked the celebration of Catholic Education Sunday, while Catholic Education Week took place in May, coinciding with World Catholic Education Day. However, recognizing the importance of a unified approach, a movement emerged to merge these events. Consequently, it was agreed that both Catholic Education Sunday and Week would be consolidated into a single, impactful celebration held during the third week of October. Commencing with Catholic Education Sunday, this week-long celebration culminates with a special activity led by Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association (ACSTA), The Council of Catholic Superintendents of Alberta (CCSSA), and the Grateful Advocates for Catholic Education (GrACE), dedicated to honoring the profound impact of Catholic education.
Why wear blue to celebrate?
Blue symbolizes constancy, fidelity, genuineness, and aspiration, with a special association with the Blessed Virgin Mary. As October is traditionally recognized as the month of the rosary, it is fitting to adorn blue attire during Catholic Education Week. This serves as a visible celebration of publicly funded Catholic schools in Alberta and across Canada, honoring their invaluable contribution to education and faith formation.
When do we wear blue? Catholic Education Week/World Catholic Education Day (May)
During Catholic Education Week, expressing solidarity through wearing blue attire is encouraged. While you're free to sport blue any day of the week, your school division likely designates a specific day, often Thursday, for this purpose. Additionally, on World Catholic Education Day in May, marked on Ascension Thursday, wearing blue becomes a formal gesture of support. This day, occurring 40 days after Easter, holds particular significance as a global celebration of Catholic education.

What is Differentiation
As we begin to get closer to Nov 29 PT conferences and progress reports in January, I am sharing the image below that describes differentiation or differentiated instruction. Part of a teacher's job is to meet students where they are in their learning and to plan instructional activities and strategies that meet their needs. Teachers accomplish this through the use of differentiation.

Dear families,
Did you know October is ADHD Awareness Month?
According to Centre for ADHD Awareness Canada, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in the country, affecting 4-6% of adults and 5-7% of children, or approximately 1.8million Canadians.
Only some kids with ADHD are hyperactive. Others, particularly girls, may be calm, but have a form of ADHD that makes it harder for them to focus or pay attention.
A number of other health problems, such as anxiety, depression, and certain types of learning disabilities, have symptoms that are similar to those of ADHD.
In some cases, children's circumstances may cause them to behave in ways that can be misinterpreted as ADHD. As a result, doctors must determine whether or not a sudden change or stressor in children's lives — such as the death of a family member or divorce — is affecting their behavior.
Unfortunately, ADHD has a bad reputation because of the stigma around it, which is also harmful. Kids and adults with ADHD have many gifts, like boundless energy, creativity, imagination and ingenuity. Their brains just work a little differently, which makes our world more interesting!
Take Care 🙂

Enrollment in A Catholic School for Non-Catholics
The Education Act requires the Calgary Catholic School District to prioritize resources and facilities for resident (Catholic) students. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the advancement of a non-resident (non-Catholic) student from one grade to the next in the same school or from elementary to junior and senior high school.
We do not reassess the enrollment priority of a non-resident student during a school year, but we may do this for a future school year. This may result in us informing you to seek enrollment at a different school in the Calgary Catholic School District or another school division for a future school year.
Please contact me at denis.fortier@cssd.ab.ca or by phone at 403 500 2063, if you have any questions about your child’s enrollment priority.
