KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We had a very good turnout for the Sara Gillespie meeting yesterday. The community was engaged and had many questions about the district’s plans for redistricting, consolidation, and closure impacting our area. The district website for the process is linked here. Thank you to our Northwood PTA for providing the food and coffee for the meeting and to our AU Support students and Ms. Kirby Carruth for the uplifting musical performance, it was wonderful!
This upcoming Monday, October 19th from 6:00-7:00 pm Greg Tang, Jr, is our Family Math Night! This visit is because of Northwood Foundation’s longstanding partnership and support of Greg Tang. He will share interactive math games and show everyone how fun math can be! The event is open to current Northwood students and their parents, it is not a drop off event. There will also not be food available, just an hour focused on math fun!
Speaking of the Northwood Foundation, next week on Wednesday the students will participate in the Booster Kick Off Pep Rally! We are VERY lucky to have a Foundation that is able to support the many and various needs of our campus from the Greg Tang Math subscription, professional development for staff, campus beautification for the main entrance and courtyard, the book vending machine restocks, Kindergarten Boot Camp and so much more. There are many things that make Northwood special and unique and we couldn’t do it without our Foundation and the funds raised to support our campus.
Enjoy the crisp fall weather this weekend!
With gratitude,
Heather Q. Rucker, Principal

FCS CAPITAL PLAN 2032: ESPLOST INFORMATION
On November 3, 2026, Fulton citizens will vote on whether or not to continue ESPLOST as the funding source for Capital Plan 2032. Fulton County Schools has created a special webpage with information about Capital Plan 2032 and ESPLOST at www.fultonschools.org/ESPLOST.
We encourage you to visit that page to view more specific information about our school’s projects as well as general information about districtwide improvements.
FCS PARTNER QUSTODIO: FREE APP FOR FAMILIES TO MANAGE ONLINE ACTIVITY
As families continue to navigate the digital world with their children, Fulton County Schools offers access to Qustodio, a helpful online safety and digital wellbeing resource for parents and caregivers. Qustodio provides families with tools and resources to better understand and support their children's digital lives.
For more information or to create an account, visit Qustodio, or Visit the Fulton County Schools Online Safety Hub.
AVID GOAL OF THE WEEK
Northwood is proud to be an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. AVID Elementary equips students with the foundational skills and mindset needed for future success. Our staff is focused on enhancing instructional consistency, fostering a college and career readiness mindset, increasing student engagement and building organizational and study skills.
As part of this, each week Northwood will be focused on one goal as a school. Be sure to ask your child about it!
Next week's AVID goal is: to not brag if I win and not be angry if I lose.
FCS REDISTRICTING/CLOSURE AND THE CONSOLIDATION PROCESS
As you may be aware from a recent district message, Fulton County Schools will consider changes to attendance zones and evaluate school capacity through a redistricting/consolidation/closure process this fall. The process involves Geographic Region A (schools located south of the City of Atlanta) and Geographic Region C (schools located north of the Chattahoochee River). Because our school is located within one of these regions, we encourage parents and community members to stay informed, learn more, and provide input. Information about upcoming community forums is available at www.fultonschools.org/redistricting and in the attached flyer.
ALL PRO DAD: MORNING MOTIVATOR

DISMISSAL CHANGES? MAKE THEM IN PICKUP PATROL
Northwood has partnered with PickUp Patrol to help us track dismissals. PickUp Patrol provides families with a convenient way to make changes to your child’s dismissal plans and helps ensure that students are accurately and safely dismissed each day.
If you need to change how your child should be dismissed, you should submit that information via PickUp Patrol before 1:30 pm on the day of the change, and our staff will be notified. We no longer accept dismissal requests via email or paper notes. Please do not email teachers directly.
All dismissal information and changes must be entered into PickUp Patrol.
If you have any questions, please first check the PickUp Patrol Parent Guide. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Robertson at Northwood’s front desk, robertsonl1@fultonschools.org.

CAFETERIA NEWS
FREE AND REDUCED-PRICED MEAL BENEFITS
Did you know free and reduced-price meal applications benefit your family and your school? Families may qualify for free or reduced-price school breakfast and lunch. A NEW application must be completed for the 2026-2027 school year.
If you have not completed a Free and Reduced application for SY26-27, had a change in income or had an increase in household size, please take this opportunity to complete an application. Free and Reduced Meal Applications are available online at www.myschoolapps.com. Families may obtain a paper application from any school cafeteria. If able, families are encouraged to complete an online application to help expedite the application approval process.
CAFETERIA PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT FUND
Did you know? Our school community has a Cafeteria Principal Account Fund. This account will be used to fulfill any meal costs for students that reach an account balance of zero. We often have families and extended family members that ask if or how they can pay off lunch balances or support our students in this way, now the process of doing so is easy!
Should you be interested in adding to the Cafeteria Principal Account Fund, just send a check or cash to school in an envelope to Mrs. Rosa Gutierrez, our cafeteria manager, and notate that the funds go to the Principal Fund. Please reach out to Mrs. Gutierrez, gutierrezabr@fultonschools.org, if you have any questions.

Haynes Bridge Middle School is hosting a "Track or Treat Tailgate" October 29th.
The Track or Treat Tailgate is a combined community event hosted by the HBMS Music and AVID departments. It will be a FREE community event where attendees will walk the track of decorated, themed tables and pick up treats along the way! Music provided by the Band, Chorus, and Orchestra students and a Tailgate of Beef hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be offered for $5 from our AVID department. It is sure to be a family-fun event with costumes or college jerseys!
We need families/community partners/local businesses to sign up to host a TRACK BOOTH. It is the same as making a "trunk" for a Trunk or Treat event, but instead of a trunk you are decorating a TABLE and providing candy/trinkets/activities for our students & families as they walk our track and listen to our music kids perform!
