The Weekly Update January 11th, 2026

What a Great Week 1!! What a Great Week 1!!

The Check-In: January - The Reset The Check-In: January - The Reset

Motivation is Overrated. Try This Instead. 📉➡️🚀

We are one week in! 👋 If you’re already feeling that initial burst of "New Semester Energy" fading, don’t panic.

It’s actually biologically normal. Motivation is a feeling, and feelings are temporary. You can't rely on "feeling like it" to get through the semester. Instead, we need to rely on systems.

The Science: The 1% Rule 📊

  • James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, popularized a math concept that changes everything: The 1% Rule.

If you improve by just 1% every day for a year, mathematically, you end up 37 times better by the time you're done.

    • The Data: Huge overnight changes rarely stick. Small, barely noticeable improvements compound over time.

    • The Takeaway: Stop trying to change your whole life in one week. Just try to be 1% better than you were yesterday. Read one page. Do one math problem. Take one deep breath.

Weekly Challenge: "Habit Stacking" 🧱

The easiest way to build a new habit isn't willpower—it's linking.

Your brain already has strong neural pathways for things you do every day (brushing teeth, opening your locker, checking your phone).

The Challenge: Pick one thing you need to do, and stack it on top of something you already do. Use this formula:

"After I [Current Habit], I will [New Habit]."

  • Example: After I sit down on the bus, I will put my phone away for 5 minutes.

  • Example: After I brush my teeth, I will think of one thing I'm grateful for.

What is your Habit Stack for this week?
